(June 22nd, 2023) – Race fans at Speedway 660 will get to see the return of the Sportsman division on track this weekend – but it won’t just be any race! The C.B. Warrens Auto Care Sportsman 100 will be the headlining act of a Saturday night showdown in the Geary Woods, leading an event that will see all four Speedway 660 house divisions in action contesting championship points racing for the first time this year! The Re/Max East Coast Elite Pro Stocks, Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stocks, and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters are set for thrilling races, with action getting underway Saturday June 24th at 6:30pm.
Greenlaw Leads Sportsman Drivers into C.B Warrens Auto Care 100
Drew Greenlaw (#23) was the winner in the lone feature race contested thus far in 2023 for the Sportsman division. Greenlaw mounted a late charge to outduel Brady Creamer (#10) for the victory, and grab the early points lead. Entering the first extended distance 100-lap race of the year, he is sure to be a favorite for the win.
The O’Blenis sisters are no stranger to victory lane – and no stranger to big wins – and are sure to be in contention on Saturday. Alexandra O’Blenis (#74) has won the past two championships at Speedway 660, but Courtney O’Blenis (#48) edged out her sister on opening day with a third-place finish. As the sun sets, these star sisters are sure to shine brightly on the track.
Many fan favorites and regional standouts will be vying for the win. “The Old Musket” Richard Atkinson (#40) will be among those, along with sophomore driver Caleb Urquhart (#11) who grabbed a podium in the last big Sportsman race. Brody Seveck (#44) is looking to build off his opening day momentum. Rookie Sportsman competitor Brayden Tingley (#37) is set to make his first trek to the Geary Woods with his Sportsman car, looking forward to 100-laps of competition, joining Michael Cormier (#68) and BJ Gillespie (#69), who would turn the Geary Woods electric should he bring the “Nackawic Nite Train” back to victory lane.
More stars are sure to come out to battle for the first big Sportsman race of the season. The ending to the Sportsman race last Speedweekend was nothing short of dramatic and kept fans on the edge of their seat until the checkers flew!
Pro Stock Divisions Set for Second Points Race
Dave O’Blenis (#48) took the first feature win in the Re/Max East Coast Elite Pro Stock division and has grabbed an early points lead. The six-time champion may be an early favorite to score his seventh title this year, as he continues to add to his impressive career wins total.
Hudson Weston (#43) picked up his first career podium in the first race, edging out veteran Kevin Moore (#88). Clark Moore (#54) and Ian Rasmussen (#81) claimed top five finishes, creating an interesting dynamic between young talents and veteran stars thus far in the Pro Stock division.
The Re/Max East Coast Elite Pro Stock division is scheduled to contest a seventy-five (75) lap feature Saturday night under the lights. With a shorter season for the Pro Stocks, every race has a much greater importance placed on it.
Street Stock Drivers Ready to Shakedown Before Ricky Bobby 150
Justin Cole (#38) ended a long winless draught at the Targett’s Windows and Doors 100 two weeks ago, and in doing so claimed the points lead in the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division as he chases his first championship. With three winners in the first three races, each feature winner sits in the top three in points with Michael Cormier (#68) and Shawn Hyslop (#99) chasing Cole.
Chasing four different feature winners in four events, defending and six-time champion Rick Cashol (#54), Luc McLaughlin (#11), Kyle MacKinnon (#22), Ron Enkel (#52), and Jonathan Hanley (#16), among others.
The scheduled distance is thirty-five (35) laps for the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division on Saturday. Serving as the final race before the prestigious Ricky Bobby 150, expect a few extra entries to make the trek to the Geary Woods for one last shakedown in advance of the big race on Canada Day!
Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter Points Battle Continues to Rage
After back-to-back first-time winners to start the season, a veteran presence found victory lane last race for the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division. Daniel Atyeo (#15) overcame poor luck in the first two races to finally find his way back to victory lane. Atyeo joined Mitchell Harvey (#19) and Jason Duffield (#91) as feature winners in 2023.
In point standings, Alex Gallant (#5) still holds down the points lead by a single point over Rady Titus (#75). This has been the story thus far in the season, as both drivers are fan favorites and prove to be title favorites. In behind, Matt Martin (#33) has quietly raced into third place in points with consistent finishes every race. It’s only ten points back to Darren Wilcox (#32) in fourth. Austin Harnish (#13) rallied to fifth in standings on the heels of a podium finish. From sixth back to tenth is a hornet’s nest, with mere points separating each driver. As the season inches towards the halfway mark, any competitor still has a shot to win the title and a strong performance this weekend would raise any drivers’ stocks.
Twenty-five (25) laps is on tap for the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division, which has produced very clean yet exciting racing all season long – expect the action to continue and pick up with every race, as the intensity picks up!
Stay in the Know
Action starts at 6:30pm on Saturday June 24th. Pits for competitors will open at 1:00pm with practice getting underway at 2pm. Grandstand tickets are $20 for adults, and as always kids fifteen (15) years of age and under will be admitted free to the grandstands. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those at least sixteen (16) years of age and older, except for youth who are direct family members of a driver, who can enter the pits with proper signed waivers. All entrants to the pits must complete the e-waiver prior to entering the pits.
