(GEARY, NB – August 2nd, 2021) – It was a tale of two different Atlantic Modified Tour races at Speedway 660 this past weekend. Chris Wilson (South Esk, NB) raced to the victory Saturday evening in the Chess Piece Café 35 to kick off the double header at the Geary, New Brunswick track while Joe Hoyt (Waasis, NB) rallied from the back to win the Kamizo Transport 35 on Sunday.
For Wilson, it was his second victory of the 2021 championship season on the Atlantic Modified Tour and second straight after winning the All Star Auto Center 35 at Speedway Miramichi in early July. Wilson had a spirited battle with Travis Conroy (Miramichi, NB) for the victory with Wilson punching his ticket to victory lane when the dust settled in the 35-lap affair. Conroy, the point leader entering the weekend, finished second with defending Series champion Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) inheriting the final podium position following post race technical inspection.
Doug Matchett (Miramichi, NB) and Hoyt completed the top five in the Chess Piece Café 35. Heat winners for the Saturday portion of the weekend were Conroy and McCray.
After thrashing to get the No. 17 on track after practice on Saturday and a trip to the beach after an opening lap fracas on Sunday, Hoyt returned to victory lane on Sunday for his first Atlantic Modified Tour win of 2021. Hoyt raced from the back after Lap One and made the winning move on Conroy to capture the victory at his home track in the Kamizo Transport 35. Conroy was second while McCray recovered from a slide after battling for the lead to finish third.
Rookie contender Michael Savoie (Tracadie, NB) recorded his best career finish with the Series on Sunday by finishing fourth with Braxton Stafford (Miramichi, NB) fifth after leading laps early. Heat winners on Sunday included Stafford and Zean Dutcher (Miramichi, NB).
Hoyt becomes the fifth different winner in the opening six races of the season, joining Conroy, McCray and Matchett as winners this season. Wilson is the only driver with multiple victories on the year thus far.

Conroy’s performance of two second place finishes not only kept him in the point lead but extended the gap on McCray, who put two third place feature finishes on the board in the Chess Piece Café 35 and Kamizo Transport 35. Unofficially, the point lead for Conroy and the No. 7 Patterson’s Sales and Service Modified is 18 points at the halfway point in the 2021 Atlantic Modified Tour point season over the reigning Tour champion McCray.

The Atlantic Modified Tour kicks off the second half of their 2021 season on Saturday, August 7th with the Blackville Auto Parts and JBS Towing 35 at Speedway Miramichi. It is the third of four races at the North Shore oval for the Atlantic Modified Tour in 2021. Racing starts on August 7th at 4pm.
