(FREDERICTON, NB – July 29th, 2021) – Racing action returns in a big way this weekend to the Geary woods! Speedway 660 is set to host two days of door-to-door motorsports action anchored by the Late Model Sportsman Firecracker 150 on Saturday, July 31st at 6:30pm and a 125-lap RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock feature on Sunday, August 1st at 2pm. The DMR Auto Street Stock (Saturday) and the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters (Sunday) will contest championship point races on the weekend while the New Brunswick based Atlantic Modified Tour will compete on both days of the double header.
The Late Model Sportsman division has been chomping at the bit for an extended distance show since the loss of their 150-lap race in early July due to rain. Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) paces the field at the Geary, New Brunswick track with two wins in three races in the Late Model Sportsman class. O’Blenis and her younger sister Courtney O’Blenis are no strangers to victory lane in extended distance Sportsman division shows across the Province and will look to add one more to their resume Saturday with the Firecracker 150. Courtney is the most recent extended distance Sportsman winner at the track, taking the Sportsman race on SpeedWeekend 2020 last September.
The Late Model Sportsman division has been competitive at the track with seven drivers scoring podium finishes in feature competition over the first three races of the season. Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) scored a popular victory in June at the track while reigning track champion Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB), Clark Moore (Saint John, NB), Destiny Enkel (Darlings Island, NB) and Luc McLaughlin (Geary, NB) all have hardware to show from 2021. With extra laps on the board and $1,500 to win the race, there are sure to be some teams making the haul to Speedway 660 in search of a Firecracker 150 trophy.
Fans can expect to see at least one familiar face that will make his 2021 season debut on Saturday. Making his return to the driver’s seat at Speedway 660 is former Late Model Sportsman champion Drew Greenlaw. The Eastport, Maine driver has been out of the seat of his Lonnie Sommerville Racing prepared car since the end of the 2019 season and will look to quickly shake the rust off Saturday.
The DMR Auto Street Stocks will resume their championship chase on Saturday with a 35-lap feature. Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB) leads the point chase but after the most recent race, the advantage he had has been cut to three points. Caleb Urquhart (Charters Settlement, NB) and Tristin Harris (Harvey, NB) find themselves three and five points behind the lead, respectively, after three races. The DMR Auto Street Stock division has seen a trio of winners in as many races, including Nick Cudmore (Petitcodiac, NB), Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) and former track champion Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB).
Sunday sees an extended distance RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock race as the marquee attraction. The 125-lap feature is half distance of the Pro Stock 250 that will happen on SpeedWeekend 2021, giving teams a great opportunity to dial their cars in for the Labour Day Classic. Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) returned to Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane two weeks ago during the Christmas In July 150, besting Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) and Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) for the win. Ryan Messer (Harvey, NB) opened 2021 with two RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock victories and will look to put “Big Orange” back on track to victory lane this Sunday.
The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will run an extended 50-lap feature on Sunday afternoon. With the biggest car counts of any racing division in Atlantic Canada and edge-of-your-seat action and excitement, the opening act on Sunday will be one to watch! Matt Martin (Geary, NB) closed the gap on BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) in the point standings with a feature victory during the Christmas in July event. Martin sits 15 points behind Gillespie and just three points behind Randy Titus (French Lake, NB) after three events. Darren Wilcox and Austin Harnish (both of Fredericton, NB) round out the top five in the standings of over 30 drivers who have taken part in the 2021 season thus far.
The Atlantic Modified Tour will contest point paying events on the 12-race Series on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s 35-lap feature is presented by Chess Piece Café with the Kamizo Transport 35 going green on Sunday. Travis Conroy (Miramichi, NB) leads Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) heading into the double header weekend. For the fifth straight season, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.
Adult grandstand admission price for each event of racing is $20 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. A weekend pass is available for $35 for an adult grandstand pass and $45 for a pit pass. Tickets are available at the gate on race day.
