It’s almost time to go racin girls and boys!

(May 2, 2016) Speedway 660 is getting ready to kick off another great season of short-track stock car racing in the Geary Woods. The 2016 season officially gets underway on May 14th & 15th. On Saturday the 14th at 1PM race teams and fans will gather for a pre-season tech inspection and practice, then at 2PM on Sunday the 15th racing gets underway for real with the 23rd annual Riverview Ford Season Opener.

The times they are a changin!

2016 promises to be one incredible season, particularly for fans of the RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division. A large field of rookies, including former Sportsman champion Brent Roy; the 2015 Bandolero champ Ashton Tucker; Braxton Stafford, Cody Price, Devin Snell, Jeff Doherty, Brandon Skidmore and others plan to move into Speedway 660’s top division.

“We’re excited about the continued growth of pro stock racing and all of these rookies will have the opportunity to race against the very best drivers in Atlantic Canada and New England this season” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “They’ll have to get up to speed quickly because the Best of the Best 150 is scheduled for June 4th and with the Pro All Star Series and Maritime Pro Stock Tour off that weekend, we expect to see lots of outside cars try to claim one of two provisional starting positions for the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 on SpeedWeekend.”Ashton Tucker 2015 Bando championAshton Tucker wrapped up his Bandolero career by winning that division’s championship last August. Ashton is moving all the way up to Pro Stock this season and running for Rookie of the Year!|

GD Fabrication and Clattenburg Racing Fabrication, Speedway 660’s newest marketing partners, are proud to present the 2016 Rookie Pro Stock Challenge.  The top rookie in each feature points race will receive the Clattenburg Racing Fabrication Chassis Rookie Challenge Award, presented by GD Fabrication. The weekly award is accompanied by a $150 credit, redeemable at GD Fabrication in Saint John, New Brunswick. GD Fabrication build, service and maintains race cars out of their shop and is the official dealer for Clattenburg Racing Fabrication race cars in the Maritimes.

The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division was transformed with six rookies in 2015 and promises to deliver even more excitement for race fans this season. The DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock Division will see several rookies including Riley Goodwin and MacKenzie Brewer who are moving up from Bandolero as well as Noah Gillespie and Ryan Richard who raced Sharp Shooters a season ago.MacKenzie Brewer Bando podium 2015MacKenzie Brewer has been one of Atlantic Canada’s best Bando drivers for the last few years. MacKenzie will jump into a Street Stock this season after litertally outgrowing his little Bando car.

The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter Division will once again treat fans to their special brand of racing. A few rookies are expected to start their racing careers in 2016. The West Wood Estate Apartments Bandolero Division will not be up and running at the beginning of this season. That’s because over a dozen young Bando drivers have moved up to higher divisions in the last three years and there are not enough race teams remaining to go racing.

“The Speedway 660 driver roster has a lot of former Bando drivers who are now racing in our top three divisions and we are sad to have to start the season without the Bandos, but hopefully a new generation of drivers will come along in the near future and revive this entertaining brand of racing” said Max Roy. “But our Sharp Shooter, Street Stock, Sportsman and Pro Stock divisions are all in excellent shape heading into the season and we’re getting ready to see some great competition every weekend.”Sportsman action 2015The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division drivers are all set to thrill Speedway 660 fans in 2016.

There is one other significant change for 2016. The Capital City Auto Parts ENDURO division will move to newer front wheel drive cars. The change is being made because the older rear wheel drive cars, that were previously used, are getting hard to find. With the car count falling in recent years, the decision was made to revive ENDURO racing by moving into a newer class of cars. The first ENDURO event is scheduled for Sunday, June 12th.Our Emergency Medical Team is always ready to come to the aid of a Speedway 660 driver on race day. They really have to be "on their toes" when the ENDURO 200's take to the track. It's not unusual to see a scene like this, but more often than not the driver comes out unhurt.  The older style ENDURO cars have been pretty much used up. Beginning this season the wildest & craziest form of racing in the Geary Woods will move to newer front wheel drive cars.

The Riverview Ford Season Opener is scheduled for Sunday, May 15th at 2PM. Fans will be treated to action in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter, DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division. The 2016 Season runs until Labour Day Weekend and wraps up with the Irving Blending & Packaging SpeedWeekend from September 2nd to 5th.
