Ashton Tucker Completes The Drive for Five; Wins 5th Pro Stock 250!
Ashton Tucker’s drive for five turned into a dominant performance for the ages Sunday evening during the 25th Annual Pro Stock 250, leading 240 laps and lapping the entire field twice over a long green flag run en route to his historic fifth Pro Stock 250 win.
“I consider this a home track so it’s always special coming back here, and kicking ass is even better,” Tucker said in victory lane.
While Sunday would be his first start of the year, his history in the Geary Woods at the track he called home runs deep. Now a five-time Pro Stock 250 champion, Tucker made his Pro Stock debut in this race during the 2015 edition at 14 years of age – only weeks after winning the Bandolero championship. Tucker would claim the Line-X Pro Stock division Rookie of the Year award in 2016 and crack the 250 podium for the first time in 2017 with a runner-up result.
Tucker’s triumph extended his lead atop the all-time Pro Stock 250 wins list, with his five wins leading Cassius Clark and Shawn Tucker who have three apiece.
Tucker rolled off third after winning his heat race, following Greg Fahey and Ryan Messer to the green flag. After a yellow flag on lap 2, Tucker would claim the top spot for the first time on lap 10. The races second yellow came on lap 29, which was followed by an extended green flag run of 151 laps. During this race, Tucker went to work up on the wheel, lapping the entire field twice. His runaway was briefly halted when race control called a competition caution to allow teams the chance to pit – a longstanding clause in the 250 rulebook that had never been required to be used previously.
Live pit stops under the yellow shook up the running order in behind the leader. Steve Halpin would come out in second, and a flurry of quick yellows enabled Halpin to get back on the lead lap with several lucky dog passes under yellows – even leading a lap by mere inches over Tucker on a restart. Additional yellows allowed Ryan Messer to return to the lead lap before the end, but neither would have anything for Tucker, and Halpin and Messer would settle for second and third respectively.
Nicholas Naugle was the top driver who was unable to receive the lucky dog finishing in fourth, followed by Greg Fahey, Tanton Wooldridge, Robbie MacEwen, and Ian Rasmussen. The race took one hour and thirty-eight minutes to complete and was slowed by seven cautions. There were three lead changes amongst three drivers. Tucker led the lions share of the laps with 240 laps led.
