DREW GREENLAW FINALLY CAPTURES ELUSIVE RIVERVIEW FORD SPORTSMAN 150 VICTORY ON SPEEDWEEKEND!
(August 31st, 2024) – After many years of trying and many years of heartbreak, Drew Greenlaw (#23) finally is a winner of the Riverview Ford Sportsman 150.
From wrecking while leading on multiple occasions to mechanical issues, Greenlaw lost the race just about every way imaginable, but tonight he would not be denied driving off into the night. Brady Creamer (#10) would have to settle for second while Courtney O’Blenis (#48) crossed the line in third.
Greenlaw started on the pole but before long had Brady Creamer in his mirror. Creamer and Greenlaw tangled battling for the lead one year ago, but the #10 car was able to drive around and away from the #23 – until just before the halfway break when Greenlaw regained the lead and earned the halfway bonus.
In a caution free second half, there was no stopping Greenlaw who opened up a lead and navigated lapped traffic with ease to take the checkered flag with fireworks in the air.
The second half ran a fast caution free pace, but a few incidents in the first half slowed the pace. The most notable was a six car pileup that took Alexandra O’Blenis (#74) out of competition on lap 31.
Greenlaw and Courtney O’Blenis captured heat races to set the field. Fifteen (15) cars were in attendance for the Riverview Ford 150 which took one hour and nineteen minutes to complete. Five (5) total cautions slowed the pace.
The Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange Mini Stock action as part of the Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge ran twin 40-lap features with Mike Weagle (#60) earning both wins. The first feature was mostly caution free, but the races lone yellow came out on with just four laps to go, which forced Weagle to hold of Nick Brun (#01) for the win with Nathan Richard (#35) in third.
After an invert, Brun quickly got the lead in the second feature but a miscue while leading saw him spin and be relegated to the back. Weagle would get the lead on account of this, but a fast Nathan Richard kept him honest until he got tangled with a lapped car. Both drivers would work their way back to the top three but couldn’t beat Weagle in an identical podium.
Fifteen (15) Mini Stocks were on the property to partake in SpeedWeeekend. No heat races were contested as part of the twin features format.
Josh Langille (#18) held off a hard charging Ayden Christensen (#24) on a late restart to win a fantastic forty (40) lap Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends feature. Caden Tufts (#00) led much of the race, but Langille managed to get the lead working through traffic. Christensen would capitalize on the late yellow and the choose rule to rocket to the outside of Langille, but he would be unable to get the lead as Langille took the win.
Tufts and Christensen earned heat race victories for the first of two races on SpeedWeekend. Fifteen (15) Legends were in attendance.
It was a wild four-wide finish in the Bandolero division, one that almost saw a last lap pass. Landon Pierce (#19) was cruising to a close but comfortable victory over Ethan Hicken (#5) in the twenty (20) lap Bandolero Blast, but they caught lapped traffic on the final turn forcing Pierce to lift. As Pierce split the lapped cars, Hicken rocketed to the outside and made it four-wide, but came up a few inches short of passing Pierce for the win. Hudson Ruff (#83) earned a third place finish but would go for a spin and collected another car after the finish as drivers gave it their all.
Pierce and Ruff won heat races for the Bandolero Blast. Eleven (11) cars were in attendance.
SpeedWeekend Sunday has become SpeedWeekend Monday, as the running of the 24th Annual Yard Gear 250 presented by Valvoline Motor Oil has been postponed to Monday September 2nd. Action starts at 12pm with qualifying races, with the Atlantic Modified Tour, Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooters, Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends, and Heart of a Champion Hot Rod Classics will be on the card as well, with the Sunday portion of Bandolero action being canceled.
