BUTCHER, MCLAUGHLIN, GILLESPIE WINNERS AT SPEEDWAY 660 SATURDAY!
(May 26th, 2024) – Jarrett Butcher (#54) commanded much of Saturday’s East Coast International Pro Stock Tour 150-lap feature, but to get to victory lane it took some late race dramatics. Butcher poured pressure onto Ashton Tucker (#2) over the closing laps, setting up a thrilling side-by-side duel between the pair all the way to the checkers, with Butcher emerging on top for his first ever Pro Stock win at Speedway 660.
Nineteen (19) competitors made the trip to Speedway 660 for the East Coast International 150, with defending race winner Ryan Messer (#1) being awarded the final podium position. Complete results can be found at maritimeprostocktour.com.
Not to be outdone, a pair of Speedway 660 house classes set the stage for the East Coast International 150 with hotly contested features of their own.
One week after suffering a catastrophic motor failure during practice, Luc McLaughlin (#11) took the lead from pole sitter Rick Cashol (#54) just prior to the halfway mark, and then had to hold off three of the best en route to his first victory of the 2024 season in the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division.
McLaughlin outdueled Shawn Hyslop (#68), who was driving the car normally piloted by Michael Cormier, last week’s winner Justin Cole (#38), and Riley Goodwin (#77) to secure the win. Kyle MacKinnon (#22) rounded out the top five on the thirteen-car (13) field.
Heat races were equally as competitive as feature action, with Rick Cashol and Jimmy Sommerville (#5) earning victories in their respective races. This was the ninth career win for McLaughlin at Speedway 660 in the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division.
BJ Gillespie (#69) notched back-to-back feature victories to fire off the new year in the Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter division. Gillespie earned the win at the end of the race, catching and passing Matt Martin (#33) on the white flag lap to grab glory. Jason Duffield (#91) rounded out the podium, with Terry Lawson (#14) and Curtis Tremblay (#00) taking top five finishing positions.
Gillespie and Todd Day (#4) were victorious in ten-lap heat races to start the afternoon. Twenty (20) Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter competitors were on the property for the second race of the season. For BJ Gillespie, it marked his sixteenth career Sharp Shooter feature victory at Speedway 660.
Action continues to roll on at Speedway 660 this upcoming weekend, as the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series takes their turn in the spotlight in the Geary Woods as part of the first Saturday night show of the year! Start time will be 6pm on Saturday June 1st for the Castle Building Centres 150 presented by Taiga Building Products. A whole host of series and tours will fill the pits at Speedway 660, with the Crossroads Maritime League of Legends and Atlantic Modified Tours hosting feature races, along with the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stocks and a visit from the Bandoleros.
