Fahey Finishes First Again!
(May 21, 2017) Greg Fahey started the 2017 racing season at Speedway 660 in fine fashion on Sunday. Fahey, who won the last three feature races of 2016 to claim the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock crown, won the 50 lap feature on the Riverview Ford Season Opener and Kid’s Day. Other feature winners were Drew Greenlaw in Sportsman, Luc McLaughlin in Street Stock and Kyle MacKinnon in Sharp Shooter.
“What a great way to start our season, the Patterson Toyota was fast today, the crew did an outstanding job and Andy Fox from MacLaughlin Roof Trusses has given us everything we need to be competitive” said a happy Fahey. “We struggled early last season and one of our goals for 2017 was to get off to a better start and it couldn’t get any better than it was today.”Greg Fahey (#29) has won the last four Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock features at Speedway 660! Fahey is chasing a 5th Pro Stock championship and 8th overall.
Big Kevin Moore and Dustin Tucker ran second and third in the Re/Max Group Four Realty feature. Fahey, Sarah McKay and Ashton Tucker won the Pro Stock heat races.
Greenlaw, who finished second in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman standings each of the last two year, outran John Rankin and Alexandra O’Blenis in their 40 lap feature. Andrew Rodgers and Matt Maillet won the Sportsman heat races.
“We’ve been coming up here every week to race since I was a kid in bandolero and to go home to Eastport, Maine with a win in the Riverview Ford Season Opener is a great way to start the season” said Greenlaw. “We had an awesome field of cars today and the competition this season is going to be really good so we’re going to have to work hard to be in the running for the championship.”Drew Greenlaw goes to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane on opening day. Greenlaw is one of the bright young stars in our sport and has his sights set on that elusive Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman championship.
McLauglin, back in a DMR Auto Street Stock car after a year off, was the class of the field on Sunday. He jumped into an early lead in the 30 lap feature and raced to victory lane ahead of Riley Goodwin and Roger Slocum. McLaughlin and Goodwin won the Street Stock heat races.
“I can’t tell you how good it feels to be back in a stock car at Speedway 660 this season and pull off a win the first time out” said McLaughlin. “There are lots of good Street Stock race teams here this year and fans are going to see some really great races in 2017.”Luc McLaughlin sure remembered how to get to victory lane! After taking a year off, Luc jumped into a DMR Auto Sales Street Stock and claimed the checkered flag in the first feature of his season!
MacKinnon, the 2016 Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter champion, had a fierce battle with Kyle Boudreau before taking the 20 lap feature win on Sunday. Boudreau settled for second, while Brody Levesque came home third. Boudreau and Levesque won the Sharp Shooter heat races.
“Man is it ever good to go racing after a long off-season and to start off with a feature win makes it even better” said MacKinnon. “I broke a spring in my heat race and borrowed one from Kyle (Boudreau) and ended up winning the feature, so I want to thank him for helping me get back on the track.”Kyle MacKinnon had a great battle with Kyle Boudreau before winning the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature on Sunday. The two Kyles won the last two championships in this divison and have served notice they’ll be in contention again this season!
Next Sunday afternoon at 2PM Tim’s Corner Motorsports presents the Bandolero Spring Shootout. There will also be action in all four of Speedway 660’s weekly racing divisions. The first night race of the season is on June 3rd when the Pro All Star Series makes its only appearance of the year in Atlantic Canada.
