(Aug. 25, 2016) The 2016 Night of Champions is happening this Saturday at Speedway 660. The racing begins at 6:30PM and will be intense as Championship trophies and Rookie of the Year awards will be up for grabs in all four racing divisions.
“The Night of Champions is always an exciting event and drivers will go all out to win a title, rookie award or crack the top five or top ten position in the points” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “We could see first time champions in all four divisions and there is potential for something really special to happen in pro stock and street stock.”The race for the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Championship is just about this close with Greg Fahey leading Kevin Moore heading into the Night of Champions. Greg is racing for his 7th championship trophy at 660, while Kevin is looking for his first.
Greg Fahey leads Kevin Moore by just five points in the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division. If Fahey claims the title it would be his seventh overall and tie him with Brian Gillespie for the most Speedway 660 championships. Courtney O’Blenis trails Robert Raynes by just four points in the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock Division. If O’Blenis can overtake Raynes she would be the first lady ever to win a Speedway 660 championship.Courtney O’Blenis won the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock Rookie of the Year Award in 2015. On Saturday night she hopes Mike Francis, from DMR, presents her with the 2016 championship trophy.
“It would be nice to be the first girl to win a championship at 660, but I don’t think about that too much because my focus this week is on working hard in the shop to make sure the car is ready and to go to the racetrack Saturday and be the best I can be” said O’Blenis. “Rob is a great driver as well as the defending champion and I know he’s going to be tough to beat, but we’re only four points behind him and will give it our best shot on Saturday night.”
