The Weekend Photo Album
(June 12, 2016) There is nothing “regular” about Speedway 660’s Weekly Championship Points racing events. This past Saturday the sharp shooters, street stocks, sportsman and pro stocks all gave us incredible action in their feature races. We invite you to check out the photo album from the weekend’s races. Max Roy was our photographer this week.
There’s always some work to do on race day in the pits. Street stock rookie Riley Goodwin, with the fancy shades, has got lots of help. There was pretty heavy cloud cover on Saturday, but the weather held and we were treated to some great racing. It’s time to go racin and the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters are up first. As usual these cats get after it early on in the first heat race. For the second week in a row Allison Hall drives her little sharp shooter into victory lane in the first heat. This kid from Oromocto is really on a roll this season!Matt Crocker follows up his big feature win on June 4th, with a victory in the second heat on Saturday night. Matt is always a force to be reckoned with when the sharp shooters hit the track. Bring on the DMR Auto Sales Street Stocks. Benji Ruff scores the win in heat number one. The former ENDURO champion always does a nice job behind the wheel of the 8 car. The second street stock heat race gave us a little taste of what was to come in the 30 lap feature later on this night. That’s Rick Cashol up front in a great battle with Destiny Enkel. The five time street stock champs gets the win in that funky lookin Oldsmobile from the 1980’s. Rick is a big supporter of the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame in Petitcodiac and when he’s finished with this ride, perhaps the Hall would like to put it on display!Moving right along, it’s time to roll out the Martins Home Heating Sportsman cars. Alexandra O’Blenis beats her Dad Dave to the stripe and takes the checkers in the first heat race. Nice going Alex, but do you really think you’ve got what it takes to beat your father twice on the same night? We’ll just have to wait and see!Richard Atkinson is a winner in the second heat. Could this be the year that this “old musket” outshines the “young guns” to claim his first sportsman championship? We’ll have to wait until the Night of Champions in late August to find out.Michael Kyle got involved in a little “fender bender” in the first Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock heat race.Dustin Tucker wins that first pro stock heat race. This third generation driver is improving every week and is starting to run up front with the Big Boys a lot more often! Speaking of Big Boys, Matt Harris parks his Ford Fusion in the Riverview Ford Victory Lane after winning pro stock heat number two. Harris has been around Speedway 660 since day one and is always a contender when the pro stocks roll out on the track. It’s feature time and the sharp shooters waste little time in going three wide. This little division provides 660 fans with some big entertainment.Brody Levesque has a really nice run and picks up his first Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature win of 2016. Great job Brody!Bryan Suttie gets his second sharp shooter podium and brings the 51 home in second place. Bryan hopes he’ll continue having good runs at 660 and one day soon get to park in the Riverview Ford Victory Lane.Matt Crocker finishes third, but more important this is his third straight podium finish in our sharp shooter division. Matt sure knows how to bring the double zero up front. Here we go with the street stocks. Thirty laps of excitement and it’s Destiny Enkel in car number 52 with the early lead. It doesn’t get much closer than this. Cashol, Raynes and O’Blenis are duking it out and trying to keep Destiny in sight. It was a wildly entertaining street stock feature.Destiny Enkel wins the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock feature for the very first time. “The Port City Princess” ran a flawless race and will remember this one for a long, long time. BTW that’s two races in a row that they ladies have shown up the guys in street stock. Last time out Courtney O’Blenis won the feature. Girl Power Rules 660!Rob Raynes cut a tire down early in this race and had to pit under caution. He came back, started at the back and rallied for yet another podium finish. After the race Rob jokingly said he was “tired of getting beat by girls”. He followed that up by congratulating Destiny on her first ever feature win! Rick Cashol followed up his heat race win with an impressive third place finish in the feature. Rick has been very consistent in 2016 and the veteran driver has re-discovered the form which earned him five street stock championships. The sportsman 40 lap feature is next and the competition is intense. It’s the last run before these drivers come back to the Geary Woods for the Martins Home Heating 125 next weekend. Points leader Ryan Messer gets a little ding early in the race which contributes to him missing the podium for the first time this season.Drew Greenlaw breaks a sway arm which causes his car to lurch over hard on the right front coming through the turns. Despite this Drew soldiers on and gets a nice finish. But up front it is O’Blenis vs. O’Blenis – Daughter vs. Father. This is how close it was at the stripe and Alexandra beats Dave and goes back to Boundary Creek with bragging rights at least for a week! That’s Alexandra (right) and her “little sister” Courtney celebrating the win in victory lane. The girls are pointing at a special heart-shaped sticker which is wishing Speedway 660 Office Manager Wanda Campbell a speedy recovery. Wanda, who is in hospital in Saint John, is missed by all of the drivers, 660 staff and fans. Get well soon Wanda, can’t wait to see you back in the Geary Woods! There’s no better way to be second best than finishing runner-up to your daughter. Dave O’Blenis has a little extra motivation heading into the Martins Home Heating Sportsman 125 next weekend. But for now at least, Alexandra has bragging rights at the O’Blenis dinner table!Drew Greenlaw did an awesome job piloting an ill-handling race car to a third place finish. Drew and his Dad will get the 23 fixed up this week and give it their best shot next Saturday night when the Martins Home Heating 125 goes green!Dustin Tucker grabs the early lead in the pro stock feature. The battle of a couple of pro stock rookies gets intense as Brent Roy takes the outside lane to race past Braxton Stafford.Lonnie Sommerville catches and passes Dustin Tucker for the lead. Sommerville wins the race and becomes the first pro stocker to take two features in 2016. Lonnie loves driving fast and winning races, but that’s nothing compared to sharing the checkered flag with Daddy’s Girl!John Rankin made an incredible move to jump from fourth o second and that’s where he finished. John and the Brad Silliker Motorsports Team are firing on all cylinders these days.Brent Roy and his team get their first ever pro stock podium. Earlier this season they had a few issues with the car, but on this night they were right on their game and grabbed third place. Roy’s great run earned him the Clattenburg Racing Chassis GD Fabrication Award for the top rookie in the race.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s photo album and want to thank Max Roy for the great images.
