660’S SHARPEST SHOOTERS SET SIGHTS ON GUNSLINGER 75!
(August 10th, 2023) – Speedway 660’s Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division will steal the spotlight with their biggest race of the year on Saturday August 12th. The 5th Annual Gunslinger 75 will put the divisions best against each other in a unique format that is set to entertain. Action will commence at 6:30pm and the Gunslinger 75 will be joined by the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division, Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division, and Kids Power Wheel races!
Gunslinger 75 Headlines Action
It’s been a competitive season for the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division. Through five races, there have been five different winners – Mitchell Harvey (#19), Jason Duffield (#91), Daniel Atyeo (#15), Darren Wilcox (#32) and Ryan Bernard (#68).
It’s been a heated points battle all season long, particularly between Randy Titus (#75) and Darren Wilcox (#32). With this being the biggest race of the summer for the class serving, these top contenders will want to come out on top – and with the Gunslinger 75 being a show points race, there is nothing to lose!
Nearly two dozen competitors have competed thus in 2023, with the action being fast and fierce. The Gunslinger 75 is sure to bring out one of the largest fields of the year. With some extra bonuses and prize money on the line, it increases the stakes for this one.
A special format is planned, with the 75-lap main event being split into three 25-lap segments. The field will be inverted upon completion of the first and second segments to set the field for the next 25-lap sprint. The Gunslinger 75 champion will be crowned based upon who has the best average finish over each of the three segments – making each 25-lap segment extremely valuable, and every position being very crucial.
Gunslinger Kids Rides and Power Wheels Races
There’s lots of excitement for the youngest fans on Saturday. Firstly, at 6pm there will be Kids Rides with the stars of the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division. This will be followed with the final Power Wheels race of the season during the St. Louis Bar and Grill Fredericton intermission! It will be a great night in the Geary Woods for the youngest fans!
Re/Max East Coast Elite Pro Stocks Down to Two Points Races
Dave O’Blenis (#48) is eyeing up a record seventh Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division championship in 2023. O’Blenis has won two features and podiumed in all three races to date – opening up a nine-point lead in the standings. Three races remain for the division – but with the 23rd Annual Pro Stock 250 being a show points race, only two opportunities remain for drivers to make up points and upset O’Blenis.
The stiffest competition for the Burger King machine has been newcomer Hudson Weston (#43), who has earned podiums in each of the three races. Hudson has impressed all season long, and while he is chasing his first win of the season (and in the class!), he also sees the big picture and is ready to capitalize should O’Blenis have a slip up.
Ian Rasmussen (#81) sits third in points, with Clark Moore (#54) fourth after he earned his first podium two weeks ago. After an early season podium finish, Kevin Moore (#88) has seen his title hopes diminish with hard luck marring his season and putting him fifth in points.
Fifty (50) laps in on the card for the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division, for their fourth points race of the 2023 season.
Justin Cole and Michael Cormier Battling for Street Stock Title
With four races remaining in their season, a heavy hitting title fight is brewing, as two of the best Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock competitors find themselves separated by only five points as they each chase their first Speedway 660 championships.
Leading the way is Ricky Bobby 150 champion Justin Cole (#38), who has two feature wins and has finished on the podium in every race. Cole is seeking his first career championship after many close title battles through the years.
Sitting behind Cole is a multi-time Street Stock champion through the Maritimes – but not at Speedway 660 – in Michael Cormier (#68). Cormier has won two feature races at Speedway 660 thus far – including the most recent feature on July 29th. With three (3) Petty International Raceway championships and two (2) Maritime Street Stock Series championships, Cormier has an impressive resume, but now wants to add a Speedway 660 trophy to his already full shelf.
While this duo have emerged as the ones to beat, the rest of the field will be looking to take them down. Shawn Hyslop (#99) has one feature win this year and sits third in points. Defending champion Rick Cashol (#54) sits fourth ahead of Kyle MacKinnon (#22) and Ron Enkel (#52). Luc McLaughlin (#11) is another driver looking to play spoiler – he has shown speed but has not had luck on his side.
Thirty-five (35) laps is the distance for the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division on Saturday.
