The Sunday Photo Album: June 22nd
The Martin’s Home Heating 100 delivered everything fans come to expect from the best Sportsman drivers in the Maritimes. Door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper action, with very few cautions made for an exciting race and a dramatic finish. We invite you to check out our latest photo album. Dave O’Blenis was the fastest car during the Martin’s Home Heating time trials late Saturday afternoon. The O’Blenis “fast lap” was only .8 seconds better than the slowest car!
Andrew Rodgers (#14) makes the inside move on his brother Matt in a qualifying heat race. Andrew won the heat, setting himself up for the pole position in the Martin’s Home Heating 100.
John Rankin, drove for Billy Sommerville on Saturday night. The former Speedway 660 Sportsman champ brought the #27 to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane in the other MHH100 qualifying heat.
Getting ready. Driver introductions on the front stretch. The great Speedway 660 fans are soon to be treated to one of the best Sportsman races we’ve seen in awhile.
Richard Martin throws the green flag and Andrew Rodgers (#14) sprints out to an early lead. They raced 29 laps before the first Service Master Clean Caution came out and then went to lap 90 before the second yellow flew. Rodgers stayed up front the entire time.
While Rodgers rolled along out front, Dave O’Blenis (#48) and Brent Roy waged a hotly contested battle for second place. Lap after lap these two went at it to the delight of our fans and the race leader!
Chris Reid, from Fort McMurray, Alberta, moved up to challenge Roy for third and eventually got the spot before fading a bit late in the race.
Three late cautions on laps 90, 91 and 94 set up this three car race for the win. Rodgers, O’Blenis and Roy get up-on-the-wheel for one last run for $3000.
Then there were two. It came down to Andrew Rodgers and Brent Roy in a thrilling finish, a last lap pass for the win and a trip to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane for…….
…Andrew Rodgers! The kid from Smithtown gave up the lead with a couple to go and had to make a last lap pass to get where he wanted to be at the end of the race! Richard Martin congratulates Andrew on the win and the big pay day!
Brent Roy gave it his best shot, but ended up settling for a second place finish. Brent finished 3rd in this race a year ago, so perhaps 2015 will be his year to finally go to Victory Lane in the Martin’s Home Heating 100.
Greg Fahey made a late charge and drove his car to an impressive third place finish in the MHH 100. The Firecracker 150 is the next big event for Sportsman drivers. It is scheduled for August 9th and will be another thrilling event.
Derek Christie drove an amazing race to earn his first-ever Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock feature win. Derek (left) gave all the credit to his Dad, Leon (center) and crewman Richard MacIntosh. But we think Derek deserves at least a little credit for the success of Team Christie!
Cole Boudreau made sure Derek Christie worked hard for the Pro Stock win. Derek crossed the stripe less than a car length ahead of Boudreau to take the checkers. Cole, the rookie sensation, was ecstatic about his first ever Pro Stock podium. Our fans were almost as excited as Cole and gave him the loudest ovation of the night!
Dave O’Blenis, who was doing double duty on Saturday night, pulled off a third place in the Pro Stock feature. Dave, who is going for his 3rd straight Pro Stock title at 660, says he’s in tough in 2014 because the competition is better than ever in the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division!
The DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock feature was a wild affair. Luc McLaughlin (#11) kicks up a little dust as he tries to go three wide!
Rob Raynes is having an awesome year in our Street Stock division. Rob, who has been on the podium every week so far, finally grabbed a feature checkered flag. Well deserved Rob, great performance!
Peter Martin, who led for much of the Street Stock feature, surrendered the lead late in the race, but still had a great 2nd place finish. Peter started his career in go-karts and bandos, but physically out-grew the little cars and had to get into something bigger!
Justin Cole is having a break-out season at Speedway 660. In week one, he won a Jensen Financial Hat-Trick Award and Saturday night’s 3rd place finish puts him solidly in the Street Stock championship picture.
Whoops – Malcolm Suley spins and kicks up a little dust in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature. Malcolm and the rest of the Sharp Shooters have their sights set on a 30 lap feature next Saturday night in the Geary Woods.
Jeremy Doran won the Sharp Shooter feature on Saturday night. Last time out he landed on his roof on the back stretch. Jeremy much prefers a visit to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane!
Ira Farnell is one of our most consistent Sharp Shooters. On Saturday night Ira finished 2nd and picked up another podium. This kind of consistency could pay off on Speedway 660’s Night of Champions in August.
Courtney and Kenny “Papa Bear” Barton celebrate a third place finish on Saturday night. Come back to the Speedway 660 web site, later this week, to read a Conversation with this talented young lady.
Cory Hall became the first driver to win two Westwood Estate Apartments Bandolero features this year. On Saturday night Cory had to work hard and race hard to earn the checkers.
Ashton Tucker is one fast kid! Ashton drove his Bando to a 2nd place finish on Saturday night to the delight of his family, friends and Speedway 660 fans.
MacKenzie Brewer is making a habit of finishing on the podium in the Bando feature. Grandfather Brian Campbell and “crew-boy” James McCoy join MacKenzie in this podium photo.
Thanks for checking out this week’s Sunday Photo Album. A double header weekend is coming up next at Speedway 660. Next Saturday we’ll have the Sharp Shooter 30 lap feature and racing in four other divisions. Then on Sunday, hold onto yer hats because our first ENDURO of the year is on our schedule.
