Like a thief in the night, Matt Maillet from Burton, stole the show at Speedway 660 on Saturday night. Maillet won the Martins Home Heating Sportsman 100 in front of the biggest crowd of the racing season. Dave O’Blenis, who had the dominant car, led the first three-quarters of the race before mechanical issues forced him to retire.

“No-body had anything for Dave tonight and we were all basically running for 2nd place until something let go in his car” said Maillet. “This is the biggest win of my racing career and we really had to work hard to get to the Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane to claim that three thousand dollar first place prize money.”

Maillet lay “waiting in-the-weeds” most of the night and stayed out of trouble, then with about 30 laps to go he made his move into 2nd place, but didn’t seem to have any shot at reeling in O’Blenis. But suddenly the leader experienced drive-train issues and there was Matt, the opportunist, ready to make a run for the cash!  After inheriting the lead when O’Blenis dropped out, Maillet was first challenged by Brent Roy who ended up third in the Martins Home Heating 100 for the second straight year. And then Matt Rodgers ran door to door with the eventual winner, for the rest of the race, after a late caution came out with four laps to go.

“This was an incredible run, we worked so hard all week to get this thing ready for this race and I’m pretty proud to run 2nd behind Matt Maillet” said Rodgers. “We were really running each hard for the last four laps, but Matt is a great guy to run against and it was clean racing right to the checkered flag.”

Dave O’Blenis won the time-trials and his qualifying heat to earn the pole position. Ken MacKenzie, last year’s winner, won his heat race while Rodgers won the other heat.

The RE/MAX Group Four Realty feature saw a dominating performance from Dave O’Blenis who was running both Pro Stock and Sportsman. O’Blenis won the feature and his heat race. Ken MacKenzie, who also ran both races, finished 2nd in the pro stock feature, while Derek Christie drove to a solid 3rd place finish. Paul Gahan won the other heat race.

The DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock main event was hotly contested. Matt Banks ended up in the Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane, edging his rival Rick Cashol. Fan favourite Heidi Cooper drove a solid race and came home 3rd. Cooper and Robert Raynes won the heat races.

The Fredericton Jewelers 4 cylinder division feature was claimed by Jeremy Doran. Daniel Clark finished 2nd, while Ira Farnell took 3rd. Doran and Randy Campbell won the heat races.

Drew Greenlaw had the hot hand in the West Wood Estate Apartments Bandolero Division. Greenlaw won the feature ahead of Alexandra O’Blenis and Cory Hall who had his best finish ever. Ryan Messer and Hall won the heat races.

Next weekend sees double header action at Speedway 660. On Saturday night at 7PM there will be point racing in five exciting divisions and then on Sunday at 2PM the first Enduro 200 of the season will be held.
