The Best is yet to Come! – Wade’s Weekly # 11

Last Updated: July 23, 2012By

Speedway 660 will be rockin with Pro Stock racing on Saturday night. Our last event, before we take a break for the August long weekend, is going to be an incredible one. That’s because our A.L. Gullison Disaster Kleenup Pro Stock regulars will roll out the welcome mat for some heavy hitters, in what I would call an Auto Value 250 preview!

The Best of the Best 150 is the 3rd of 4 major Pro Stock events scheduled at Speedway 660 in 2012. Fans can expect a great race as our weekly pro stockers like Greg Fahey compete against visiting race teams like Ben Rowe, with the winner getting a guaranteed spot in the Auto Value 250.

The annual Best of the Best Pro Stock race is a highlight of the season. Not just because the BIG BOYS of racing go 150 laps and not just because the winner gets a guaranteed starting position in the Auto Value 250.

What I like about this one is the competition factor. I checked my skeds and the Pro All Star Series and the Parts for Truck Maritime Tour are both idle this weekend. That means we should see a few of those teams come out for the Best of the Best. I am not sure who or how many, but I will venture a guess that we’ll see some of those guys roll into the Geary Woods come Saturday.

SpeedWeekend 2012 is about a month away and this will be the last chance for many of these teams to get some valuable seat time at Speedway 660. What they learn this weekend could help them get to Victory Lane in the Auto Value 250 on Sunday, September 2nd.

Another thing I like about the Best of the Best 150 is how our weekly pro stock drivers welcome the competition. It would be easy to complain about the heavy-hitters coming in for the big race, but I have never heard that from our guys. As a matter of fact, when I talk to Dave O’Blenis, Greg Fahey, Big Kevin Moore, Chris Duncan and our other pro stockers they say: “Bring on the competition”.

Our guys are pretty darned good racers and they never shy away from lining up beside a Shawn Tucker, a Johnny Clark, a Lonnie Sommerville or a Ben Rowe. And that’s why our guys are pretty darned good racers. You only get better when you race against the best and our A.L. Gullison Disaster Kleenup Pro Stock drivers have done plenty of that over the years!

Last year Greg Fahey won the Best of the Best 150 in the most dominating performance we have ever seen in that race. The “Pride of Charlotte County” led every single lap and left no doubt in anyone’s mind who the Best of the Best was in July of 2011. And you know what? I wouldn’t be foolish enough to bet against Greg Fahey in 2012, even if I was a betting man!

It’s been awhile since I have seen a driver as determined as Fahey is right now. He is on a mission and make no bones about it, number 20 will have to be reckoned with come Saturday night!

I like all divisions at Speedway 660, but I’ve got a special place in my heart for pro stock racing, especially the Auto Value 250, the PASS 200, the Best of the Best 150 and the Parts for Trucks 100. That’s four huge Pro Stock races at Speedway 660 every year, plus a weekly series that is pretty good too!

There’s something about the roar of the engines, the caliber of drivers and anticipation I see in our fan’s faces that make pro stock racing so exciting. And as I have mentioned in this space before, sometimes we take our top division of racing for granted – but not this weekend.

By the way, the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, RV World Street Stock, Hanwell Village Mart Bandolero and 4 cylinder divisions are all racing this Saturday night too. It’s going to be non-stop action all night long, capped off with what I think will be our best, Best of the Best Pro Stock 150 ever.

So tell you friends, tell your neighbours, tell everyone that the pro stocks are coming to Speedway 660 this weekend for 150 laps of pure excitement! Qualifying heats get underway at 7pm, but remember we’ll get an early start at 6:20pm with our Bando and 4 cylinder heats. We’ll see you at the races!
