Kids Day Racing Card Cancelled for June 13th
(FREDERICTON, NB – June 10th, 2021) – Speedway 660 regrets to inform the racing community that the Kids Day event scheduled for Sunday, June 13th has been cancelled. The Government of New Brunswick has advised race tracks in the Province to not conduct competitive racing events with spectators, or large public gatherings in general, until the Province reaches Phase 1 of their Path to Opening. With a vaccination rate of only 72.8% as of press time on Thursday towards the Province’s 75% goal, the track has made the decision to cancel the event in advance of the weekend.
While photo finishes are commonplace in motorsports, and the numbers indicate they may be close to reaching the 75% vaccination rate the Province is looking for by Sunday, there is still uncertainty. Should the Province hit 75%, there is no guarantee that the green light would automatically be given for large public gatherings like a racing event as each individual event still need to be approved. That approval isn’t expected to be delivered on a weekend, even if the Province reaches their 75% goal.
Speedway officials wanted to give as much notice in advance to teams and fans as they could to plan for their weekend in the time frame they had for planning with the Government. The racing portion of the June 13th card does not have a make-up date and at this point is considered cancelled. The Kids Day promotion will be rescheduled for later in the season on a previously scheduled event.
The Province is on track to hit Phase 1 targets soon, which will put Speedway 660 back on track as well. Speedway 660’s next scheduled event is Saturday, June 26th at 6:30pm. The event is highlighted by the first stop of the season to the Geary woods for the Atlantic Modified Tour. Should changes need to be made to the upcoming schedule, they will be communicated through Speedway660.com and the Speedway 660 social media platforms.
