The Maritime Tour is Coming! – Wade’s Weekly 2011 Issue 6!

Last Updated: July 5, 2011By

Everybody loves Pro-Stock racing. It’s the biggest, loudest, fastest and most prestigious brand of motorsports in our region. On Saturday night the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour visits Atlantic Canada’s most popular race track. Speedway 660 is proud to roll out the welcome mat for the Maritime Tour and excited to host race number five in that series.

Home Turf for Tucker
Fredericton driver Shawn Tucker must be happy to have a short haul this weekend. Not only that, he probably is looking at his home town 100 lapper as an opportunity to have a strong finish and move up in the standings. Tucker, currently sits a respectable 3rd, but has a lot of work to do to reel in point leader Wayne Smith.

Shawn Tucker, a former AutoValue 250 winner, has been a dominate force on the Pro Stock Tour for a decade. Tucker, the defending Tour champ also won Tour titles in 2004 and 2007. Since 2001 Shawn has finished no worse than 6th in points and is the most successful New Brunswick driver in Maritime Pro Stock Tour history.

Tucker has a lot of fans here and has had a lot of success at Speedway 660 too. He certainly will have his work cut out for him on Saturday night, but when the checkers fly, don’t be surprised if Shawn is somewhere near the front of the field.

FanFest Wrap-up
Wow, what a night! Last Saturday there must have been a good five or six thousand people out for the 2011 Fox-FM FanFest. Lots of them were brand new fans too. They were treated to an exciting night of racing in all five divisions. After a couple of rain-outs our drivers were anxious to race and they put on some show! Speedway 660 had an amazing 81 different race teams participate in the Fox-FM FanFest event! On the way to the parking lot I talked with several of our new fans. They thought the racing was awesome and told me they’ll be back.

Saturday Night Heroes
There were lots of strong candidates for our weekly Saturday Night Hero Award. But after some serious thinking, I had to go with a couple of drivers who have been a part of this sport in our neck of the woods for a long time. RV World Street Stock driver “Gentleman” Jack Lane and Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman driver Randy Moore are my picks from last week.
Jack and Randy were both excited to end up with podium finishes at the 2011 Fox-FM FanFest.  But the main reason I want to recognize them for the Saturday Night Hero Award is because of their dedication to this sport and commitment to our fans at Speedway 660. Moore and Lane have never won championships, but they work really hard and come out every week to put on a show for our fans. This truly makes them Saturday Night Heroes!

Pro Stock Weekend
The Parts of Trucks Pro Stock 100 goes this Saturday night. Time trials are at 6:10 and the racing gets underway for real at 7PM. I urge you to come out to Speedway 660 to see some great racing and cheer for your favourite Pro Stocker. We’ll see you at the races!
