Wade’s Weekly – Issue 7 – We’re Having Twins!
First a few words about last week’s Fan Fest. What a great turn-out and what a great night of free racing for new and loyal fans alike. It was really nice to see lots of new faces at Speedway 660 and by all reports these folks really enjoyed their night at the races. On my way out to the parking lot, at the end of the evening, I couldn’t help but over-hear several new fans making positive comments about our racing.
What about John Rankin and Kevin Moore? John powered his number 28 to the Auto Pride Victory Lane to become the first driver to win two Sportsman features this season. And Big Kevin had an awesome run to win his first Irving Lubricants Pro Stock feature of the year.
We’re having twins this Saturday night! That’s right, Twin 100’s. The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman drivers and our pro stockers will each run 100 laps on this very special night. It’s the second half of the Best of the Best event for pro stocks. Matt Harris won the first time out, but Kevin Moore is riding high right now and Greg Fahey’s consistent efforts have catapulted him to the top of the point standings.
Don’t be surprised if we see more than a few out-of-towners touch down at Speedway 660 this weekend too. They will come to try to win the Coast Tire 100 and get valuable seat time in preparation for the Peterbilt 250 on SpeedWeekend, which is now less than two months away.
I also expect some out-of-towners to run with our Sportsman drivers this weekend too. Richard and Ann Martin have raised the stakes by putting up a cool grand in contingency money. The leaders of laps 25, 50, 75 and 100 will each get a bonus of $250. This will also be a great opportunity for Sportsman drivers to prepare for the O’Leary Pontiac Excitement 150, which goes the night before the Peterbilt 250.
John Rankin #28 sets up Dave Bigger for the outside pass during Fan Fest 2009. Rankin has two feature wins this year and is riding a wave of confidence heading into the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100 this weekend.
I mentioned that Greg Fahey has topped the charts in the pro stock standings. Kevin Moore has moved to within four of the leader and Glen Rasmussen is only six points off the pace. As a matter of fact, only 23 points separate first from seventh in pro stocks.
In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division, Michael Banks has quietly moved to the top of the leader board. He is five points up on Glyn Nott. Consistency is paying off for these veteran drivers who both are still looking for their first Sportsman Division championship. But the title is far from decided because only 14 points separate the top seven drivers in this awesome division.
This weekend is special, as a matter of fact it is going to be (please forgive me) two-riffic with twins! Sportsman and Pro Stock Twin 100’s are on our racing menu and I can’t wait to pull up a chair and enjoy the feast.
We are proud of our racing community, so spread the word and let everyone know that Speedway 660’s Saturday Night Heroes are ready to entertain this weekend with Twin 100’s.
