Tucker on fire with Parts for Trucks 100 Victory!

Last Updated: July 27, 2009By

Saturday July 25, 2009- Tonight we saw it all, rain delays, sun delays but it ended up to be a great night. The Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour came to Speedway 660 for The Parts for Trucks 100 that had previously been canceled due to rain.  What a show it was !

There were 26 cars that started the 100 lap main event. It was a little rough going in the beginning with a couple of cautions right out of the gate, with several cars spinning out in the first 10 laps.  Once the early evening jitters subsided the touring drivers entertained fans immensely. Wayne Smith and John Flemming stated on the front row and for most of the race were the big story. The two battled back and forth changing positions. Flemming led the most laps and dominated the race. Shawn Tucker started the race seventh and quickly started making his way to the front of the field until an early caution where he was involved and sent him to the back of the pack. Some would have say he was not going to have the good finish after being put to the back but he battled hard and made his way back up through the field to challenge John Flemming for the lead. Tucker had a good car all day. He came out in the time trials and ran the fastest lap of 13.70 and then after drawing for position started 6th in his qualifying heat. Tucker kept digging to get to the front and in the second half of the race he did. Passing car and car again until he took the lead from Flemming with under 10laps to go to take the win in the Parts for Trucks 100.  Finishing a close second was John Flemming who has had a lot of success in the Carquest Maritime Pro Stock Tour over the years. Flemming has returned this year for a full season to try and win another championship. Also having a strong run tonight and finishing in third to take home a podium finish was Shawn Turple.

There was certainly a lot of action at Speedway 660 tonight between the rain delay, sun delay and cautions, fans were certainly on the edge of their seats wondering what would happen next. Along with the tour drivers there were a couple Speedway 660 pro stock regulars that came out for the event.  Big Kevin Moore had a solid top ten finish and The Nackawic Night Train, Brian Gillespie also had a good run. Fredericton’s Matt Harris was also there for the event and had some bad luck as he was involved in an early caution.

In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, Myles Harris takes the win the in the feature. Myles came to the front in the second half of the race to take the lead.  Wade Harris finished a close second and Michael Banks had a podium finish in third place. Banks ran into some trouble early on, bringing out the caution after getting loose in turn 2.  After that incident Banks charged hard to get back up front and battle with the leaders. Banks was the points leader going into the race so a podium finish really helps in this tight points battle.  Also contending for the points championship and had a good fourth place finish was Glyn Nott. Rounding out the top five was the # 70 of Dave Biggar.

In the Coast Tire Street Stock feature, Smokin Joe Albert was the big winner. Albert is running a limited season.  He says he will be back a couple more times this season. Rocket Rodney Ness finished in second while Charles Gaddess had his first ever podium finish in third.

Next weekend is an off weekend for Speedway 660. Things get underway again on August 8th and 9th for the double header weekend full of excitement. Don’t miss it.
