Tour Time at Speedway 660 – Wades Weekly#8

Last Updated: July 19, 2010By

Race fans are anxious to get back to the track and this weekend we will all get to see some big time racing. That’s because the Parts for Trucks 100 is coming to Speedway 660. The Carquest Pro Stock Tour is always a highlight of the season and this weekend we will see why.

It’s been awhile since we’ve raced at Speedway 660. I know we had the Enduro last weekend, but we were rained out the week before. So it’s been three weeks since we have seen our street stocks, sportsman and pro stocks.

Lots of Talent
The CARQUEST Maritime Pro Stock tour will arrive at Speedway 660 with a lot of heavy hitters. Fresh off his win at the IWK 250, down at Riverside, we will all want to check out Kent Vincent. The Prince Edward Island driver only led nine laps in the first Triple Crown event, but he ended up leading the last lap, which is the lap that counts the most.

Shawn Tucker settled for third at the IWK 250, but led 112 laps. Wayne Smith brought his patented number 44 home in second. Those two will be tough to beat on Saturday night. Shawn Turple, who has a nice lead in the tour point championship, will also be someone to watch.

There is another reason to get excited when the tour comes to our neck of the woods. That’s because we run pro stocks on a regular basis at Speedway 660 and there are always a few of our guys who step up to challenge the boys on the tour.

Talkin Points
It’s not too early to start talking about our championship point battles because they sure are starting to heat up. Street Stock and Sportsman drivers will run for points this weekend. Michael Banks leads Glyn Nott by a single point in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division. Brent Roy, who is tenth, is only 23 points behind Banks so it looks like any one of those ten have a legitimate shot at the championship.

Banks, Nott and Wade Harris have all come close to winning that elusive title in the past. These three veterans are all hoping for a strong finish and finally getting the chance to hoist the championship trophy.

In the Leisure Family RV.com Street Stock Division there is an interesting battle in points. “Smokin Joe Albert”, the most popular driver in the history of Speedway 660, is the leader. He has a six point lead on Rick Cashol, who is still looking for redemption after losing the championship to Brian Fox last year.

This is a great battle because Smokin Joe, who has got to be pushing 70 years of age, came back from retirement this year. Joe is loved by our fans, while Cashol, who is a rough and tumble driver, has become a bit of a villain in the eyes of many of our fans. Matt Matheson and his “Yellow Deuce”, the pride of Haneytown, is third in points and there are a few other drivers who can challenge for the street stock title with a strong finish to their seasons.

Saturday Night Heroes
Our newest Saturday Night Heroes are the family and friends of the late Nathan Clingo. Nathan was an Enduro racer who passed away last November. In an effort to keep his memory alive, his family and friends delivered a nice cash prize to Rheal Kenny, the “Hard Luck Award” winner in last week’s Enduro. And Nathan Gallant, drove his friend Nathan Clingo’s Enduro car to a third place finish.

Time to Tour
Saturday night is going to be an awesome night. So make sure to spread the word, the Carquest Pro Stock Tour is in town and we want to see you and all of your friends at Speedway 660 for the Parts for Trucks 100!
