THE THUNDER RETURNS TO SPEEDWAY 660 SATURDAY

Last Updated: June 24, 2022By

(FREDERICTON, NB – June 23rd, 2022) – Speedway 660 welcomes back the Atlantic Modified Tour for the first time this season Saturday as the Northside Auto Parts 35 takes centre stage at the Geary, New Brunswick track. The Late Model Sportsman and Shur-Fit Auto Parts, Bumper to Bumper Street Stocks will also take the track as the continue their championship point chases in 2022. The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will race in an exhibition event. Racing action begins at 6:30pm this Saturday, June 25th.

The last time the Shur-Fit Auto Parts, Bumper to Bumper Street Stocks were on the track in Geary was during the Maritime Street Stock Series Targett’s Windows and Doors 100. In that race, Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) took home the top prize of $1,000 ahead of the regulars at the track. With the allure of extended laps not on the table, the focus shifts back to the championship points. While still early in the season, every point is critical. Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) leads the championship standings after three races by ten over Rick Cashol (Saint John, NB) and by 11 over Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB). Cashol and Hylsop have both climbed the mountain as Street Stock champions at the track before while Cormier has his eyes set on a first track title in Geary.

Much like Chris Wilson’s (South Esk, NB) situation on the Atlantic Modified Tour, Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) did not set out in 2022 as a full time competitor. The temptation and allure of a track championship is strong though, so it might keep the American coming back to search for another title in the Geary woods. He enters Saturday’s racing as the point leader by a slim four point margin over Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) and 11 over Alexandra’s sister Courtney (Boundary Creek, NB). The O’Blenis sisters are riding the high of a one, two finish at Petty Raceway last Saturday and while Courtney won the Sportsman feature during Steele GMC Kids Day, the elder sister is looking for her first win of the year at 660. Two out of three ain’t bad and Greenlaw has two feature wins in his back pocket this season.

The Atlantic Modified Tour will contest their third race of the season Saturday at Speedway 660. For a complete preview of the Northside Auto Parts 35, please visit AtlanticModifieds.com, the official website of the Atlantic Modified Tour.

Please note, due to rising travel costs, the Passione Flooring East Coast Mini Stock Tour was forced to cancel their race this Saturday at Speedway 660. The track looks forward to seeing the Tour back on Saturday, September 3rd during SpeedWeekend 2022.

With the cancellation of the Mini Stock Tour portion of the show, the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will put on a 25-lap exhibition event. With the Gunslinger 50 on the horizon in July, this race could be key in tuning their four cylinder cars up for the upcoming showcase.

For the sixth straight season, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.

Adult grandstand admission prices are $20 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. New in 2022, all those entering the pit gates must complete their insurance waiver online prior to heading to the track. This can be done on any smart phone and takes seconds to complete. The link to the form can be found on Speedway660.com under the “Race Team Information” menu or by going to Speedway660.speedwaiver.com. A complete race day format will be available via the track’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Speedway660.
