The Street Stock 75 Photo Album
(July 12, 2015) The DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock 75 was an incredibly exciting race on Saturday night. It was also a night of firsts in the other divisions, which made for a night to remember for many drivers and race teams. We invite you to check out Michelle Roy’s photos from our most recent race date.
The Sunday Photo Album – July 12, 2015
There’s always lots of work to do prior to the races and the pits is always a bee-hive of activity. Then Brent Dunphy, our Race Director, holds a series of meetings with drivers and crew chiefs in each of our divisions. Tim Elliot takes his place on the Speedway 660 flagstand and we’re ready to go racin on a hot night in the Geary Woods! The Bando-Boys are anxious to get things started, so here we go with another exciting night at Speedway 660.Riley Goodwin grabs the first checkered flag of the night in the West Woods Estates Bandolero Division. Nice run Riles!Getting by with a little help from her friends! The Phil’s Auto & Recreation Kawasaki wheeler gives Courtney Barton a push back to the pits after she spins out in her Sharp Shooter heat race. Here’s our first, first of the night! Noah Gillespie wins his first-ever race at 660 by picking up the checkers in his Sharp Shooter heat. Atta Boy Noah, awesome job! Our second Sharp Shooter heat race sees Ryan Richard (#80) get a little slide-ways down in turn three. Matt Crocker wins that second heat. This is certainly not the first checkered flag for “Mister Maritime Hustle” and it won’t be his last. This guy sure knows how to get it done! Rookie Braxton Stafford (#91) is about to win his first-ever Sportsman race, but after the checkers the Kid from Blackville got a little confused because he never has been to victory lane before. Braxton ended up in the pits without that important photo with his first checkered flag!Tim flies his checkered flag for Brent Roy who wins our second Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman heat race.Hey Braxton, here’s where you are supposed to go when you win a race! Of course, Brent Roy has been to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane many times over the years and has figured out how to get there. What’s wrong with this picture? Alicia Mowat, Robert Minor and Robbie Fraser take a spin on the wild side in our first Pro Stock heat race.Another first! Glyn Nott picks up a much needed win in that Pro Stock heat. It was Glyn’s first checkers of the 2015 season. Nice job J.R.When is number two number one? When John Rankin drives into Victory Lane after winning the second RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock heat race. We came to see some Street Stock racing, so where are they? OK here they come for the first heat race that will help us set the field for the DMR Auto Sales & Service 75 lap feature!Rick Cashol wins that first heat. Ricky has been fighting an ill-handling race car all season long and has got to be pretty pleased to get to Victory Lane! Oh No, Braden Langille who is racing for another win gets turned around slide-ways in our Bando feature! This can’t be good! Langille’s car (center) goes hard into the bunker in turn three! Something breaks on his little race car and Braden is done for night. Tough break for an awesome kid. When the dust finally clears Hudson Weston picks up his first-ever West Wood Estates Bandolero feature victory. It’s a night to remember for this Bando Boy and a great photo for the Weston scrap-book! MacKenzie Brewer claims second place in our Bando feature. MacKenzie is in his last year in this division and fans are starting to wonder what’s next for this great young driver. Sportsman racing perhaps? Riley Goodwin follows up his heat race win, earlier in the evening, with a third place feature finish. This talented Bando Boy is a fourth generation race car driver! That ain’t gonna work! Kyle MacKinnon (#22) can’t make his car fit into that small space as our Sharp Shooter feature gets underway! Noah Gillespie gets his first-ever Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature win. He’s joined by his talented team-mates from Harvey & McAdam as well as “Uncle Brian” a seven-time Speedway 660 champ! This is another marvelous moment in the career of a young driver. Great night Noah!Matt Crocker hustled his way to a second place finish. This Sharp Shooter made a bold inside move outta turn four to make it a “photo finish”. According to our electronic scoring system, Matt came up just 16 one thousands of a second short in his bid to take the win!Our night of firsts continues. James McCoy comes home third in the Sharp Shooter feature. It’s his first-ever podium finish. These are the moments you love as a racin fan – great job James. Maybe we should start calling you James McCoy “The Stock-Car Boy”. Do you think Randy McCoy, our original Stock-Car Boy, would mind?Remember Braxton Stafford, who won his first-ever Sportsman heat race earlier in the evening? Well, during intermission we got Braxton out in the Riverview Ford Victory Lane for that important photo. Now that this Lad from the Miramichi knows his way to Victory Lane, we expect he’ll make a few more visits! Right after intermission Braxton gets jammed-up in the Sportsman feature. Not the run he wanted in this race, but he still goes home happy with that heat win.The Sportsman feature is a good one and it comes right down to the wire. These two great drivers are going to have to settle it in the last few laps. And the winner is…….. Alexandra O’Blenis! For the second time in as many weeks, this sensational young driver takes the checkers in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman feature. Last year she made history by becoming the first Lady to ever win a feature in any of our top three divisions and this year she’s added two more. The future is now for this young driver! Brent Roy knew he was in trouble when the 74 started to reel him in during that exciting Sportsman feature. But the “Camry Kid” finished second and it’s always a good night in the Geary Woods when you end up on a feature podium.A picture of consistency! For the third week in a row Richard Atkinson finishes third in the Sportsman feature. It’s another great point night for Team Atkinson in pursuit of a first Sportsman championship. This big Pro Stock wreck involving Brady Creamer (#10) and Robert Minor (#84) came after Cole Boudreau’s car dumped it’s entire load of oil on the track. Both incidents caused considerable delays and made the track slick for the rest of the night. When the wreck was cleared and the track cleaned up we saw another great Pro Stock race. It came down to a battle for the win between these two dudes.John Rankin, who picked up a heat win earlier in the evening, wins his first-ever RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock feature for Silliker Motorsports. Dave O’Blenis takes second in the Pro Stock feature. It’s the best finish of the year for the five-time champion. By the way, daughter Alexandra, who won the Sportsman feature, came home fourth in the Pro Stock feature!Big Kevin Moore had a good run in the Pro Stock 50 lap feature. Kevin stayed out of trouble and was happy to bring what he figures was a 5th place car to a third place finish on this night. It’s pretty dark out here and we’ve still got to run the 75 lap Street Stock race. The action is fast and furious in the early stages of this one.We saw an incredible race with tight door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper racing from the drop of the green flag until the checkers waved!Geoff Tugwell receives the winner’s trophy from Harold Dorcas from DMR Auto Sales & Service. Geoff had to work extra hard on this night to come from deep in the field to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane.Harold shakes hands with Rob Raynes who started at the back with Geoff and battled his good friend all the way to the front. Rob continued his string of podium finishes with an impressive second in this one.Rob’s nephew Ryan Raynes brought the 94 to a 3rd place finish in the 75 lap race. Ryan has been very consistent in 2015 and is really pleased with a podium finish.Geoff, Rob and Ryan are good friends and help each other out in the pits and at home in the shop. They all have the Fog City Auto Spa logo on the hoods of their race cars!
