(May 29, 2016) – The second race date of the 2016 season provided Speedway 660 fans with lots of excitement. Kyle MacKinnon, Courtney O’Blenis, Matt Rodgers and Lonnie Sommerville were our feature winners. We invite you to check out our photo album from last Saturday’s races. 

We had a few more sharp shooters out on Saturday night including Brody Levesque. Hey Brody we all like that colour scheme, especially the ORANGE!Kyle MacKinnon wins the first Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter heat race and parks his little machine in the Riverview Ford Victory Lane. Kyle has one of the coolest set of wheels you’ll see in the Geary Woods! Matt Crocker hustles his double zero into victory lane in the 2nd sharp shooter heat race.The street stocks are up next and young Riley Goodwin (#77) has a nice little battle going with Randy Campbell. Riley, the former bando standout is off to an impressive start in his rookie street stock campaign.That can’t be good! Noah Gillespie, the 2015 sharp shooter rookie of the year, encounters a little problem in his second week of racing in our street stock division.Courtney Barton, another rookie in the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock Division, wins her heat race. The former ENDURO star is off to a nice start in her first full street stock season.Three for three! Rob Raynes won his heat race and the feature in the Riverview Ford Season Opener. He wins his heat again this past Saturday and will try to go four for four when the street stock feature goes green!It’s time to roll out the sportsman cars and in the first heat former Bando driver Hudson Weston (#43) makes the inside pass on Corey Collins. They both are rookies even though Corey is a little older than young Hudson. Matt Rodgers, pinch-hitting for Drew Greenlaw, takes the 23 to victory lane in the first sportsman heat race. Welcome back to 660 Matt! Alexandra O’Blenis (#74) and Shawn Warren get after it during the second Martins Home Heating Sportsman heat race.This time Alexandra parks her race car in victory lane and hopes this win gives her some momentum heading into the 40 lap feature a little later on.Remember Matt Rodgers? In addition to running Drew’s sportsman car, Matt is making his first ever start in a Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock machine!Steve Halpin, making his season debut, wins the first of three pro stock heats. It’s always nice to see the Halpin family in the Geary Woods.The second pro stock heat sees Glyn Nott almost disappear in a cloud of tire smoke right in front of the field of oncoming cars. Glyn gathers it up without any serious damage, other than perhaps flat spotting his Hoosier racing slicks!No sooner had the smoke cleared from that incident, than we saw Dustin Tucker and Jeff Doherty take a slide on the wild side!Derek Christie not only survived that second pro stock heat, he drove his car right into victory lane!Lonnie Sommerville, the defending Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock champ, takes care of business in the third heat race.It’s feature time and Kyle MacKinnon (the bearded wonder) follows up his heat race win with an impressive victory in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature!Matt Crocker, “Mister Maritime Hustle”, came home second in the sharp shooter feature. Hey Matt this is 2016, it’s OK to show a little emotion after a great finish!Bryan Suttie has been trying for a sharp shooter podium finish for a couple or three years. On Saturday night he finally made it happen with a nice third place run. Here’s a great photo for the family album. Way to go Bryan!  The 30 lap street stock feature was the best race of the night. Here comes Courtney O’Blenis trying to over-take 2013 champ Roger Slocum. While Courtney goes to work on Roger Rob Raynes, looking for his fourth win in as many starts in 2016, comes into the picture. It was a hotly contested race and in the end it was….…Courtney O’Blenis picking up an impressive win. This young race car driver is in Grade 11 at Salisbury High School and has become a force in the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock Division.Rob Raynes drove the wheels off the 41, but on this night he had to settle for a second place finish. Rob is a great sport though and gave Courtney a nice compliment for her efforts and the big win. For the second time in as many weeks Rick Cashol and his buddies get to celebrate a third place podium finish in the street stock feature. The five time street stock champ claims to have “the ugliest race car in Canada” – that may be true Ricky, but that thing is pretty quick!It’s time for the sportsman feature. Ryan Messer (#1) literally gets underneath Alexandra O’Blenis, loosens her up and then takes the lead. But would it be enough to land Ryan in victory lane with his second feature win in a row? At the end of the night,  Matt Rodger was holding the checkered flag with Drew Greenlaw’s Dad (Gerald) and Drew’s major sponsor, Lisa MacIntosh from Re/Max Group Four Realty.Ryan settled for second. That follows a win in week one. That’s a pretty impressive start to his second full season in a Martins Home Heating Sportsman ride.Alexandra comes home third and picks up her first podium of the season. Courtney, her street stock feature winning sister, joins Alex on the sportsman podium.Here come the pro stock. Their 50 lap feature was slowed by several cautions but when all was said and done….Lonnie Sommerville wins his first Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock feature of the season. Even though the defending champ is breaking in a new race car, he’s getting the same kind of results he got with the old girl “Stella”. Hey Lonnie, what’s this new girl’s name?Big Kevin Moore was third a week ago and brought the 88 home second on Saturday night. He hopes to improve by one more spot next Saturday night at the MacLaughlin Roof Trusses Best of the Best 150.Greg Fahey was third in the pro stock feature. Last year’s winner of the Best of the Best 150 is hoping to get back to victory lane next weekend and take the big race in back-to-back seasons.Matt Rodgers followed up his big sportsman win with a sixth place pro stock finish, giving him the CRF Chassis Rookie Challenge Award for this past weekend. Speedway 660 flagman Tim Elliot congratulates Matt on his accomplishment.
