(Sept. 3, 2017) SpeedWeekend 2017 provided us with some special memories and exciting racing. It was the last event of the year on the Speedway 660 racing schedule. So this is our last photo album of the year. We hope you enjoy it.

This was a unique shot from the pits on Saturday. The MJS Holdings East Coast Mini-Stock Tour drivers arrived at Speedway 660 with their little Honda’s. It was their first visit to the Geary Woods and fans were excited to see these little units in action. The pits were full of cars as drivers and their race teams set up shop to prepare their machines for competition. The tech shed was a busy spot as cars rolled through for their pre-race inspection.Race team members were busy mounting tires in preparation for the biggest weekend of racing in Atlantic Canada.Our staff and volunteers were ready to take up their duties. Speedway 660 appreciates what all of these folks do to make racing possible in the Geary Woods. We’ve got a great team!It’s almost time to go racing, but first Max Roy welcomes all of the fans and race teams to SpeedWeekend 2017.Here we go, qualifying begins for the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 150. We’ve got a great field of cars for the richest Sportsman race in our region.  The competition is intense and the big SpeedWeekend Saturday night crowd is treated to some fast-paced action.John Rankin, our 2017 Sportsman champion, wins the first heat race and qualifies on the pole for the Martin’s Home Heating 150. Dave O’Blenis wins the second heat race.  It’s Dave’s first time in his Sportsman car this season. With five grand up for grabs to the winner of the 150, this Pro Stock driver has decided to give it a go!Drew Greenlaw, from Eastport, Maine wins the third qualifying heat race. Drew, who finished second in the points for the third straight year, is looking for a good run on SpeedWeekend to finish off his season. The Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast qualifiers are next. Sam Rogers wins the first one. Young Sam loves coming to 660 for SpeedWeekend and gets his weekend off to a great start. Josh Langille goes to victory lane in the second qualifier. Fans were really happy to finally get to see the Bando’s in action at Speedway 660. Their scheduled visit, earlier in the season, was rained out. We were also treated to our first visit by the MJS Holdings East Coast Mini-Stock Tour. Their visit was also rained out earlier this season. Our first SpeedWeekend incident happens on the front stretch right in front of our big crowd when the 89 loses control.The car ends up on its side in a cloud of dust. Mike Edwards would emerge from his Honda unhurt, but the car took a beating and was’nt able to start the feature.   Darren Flemming ended up winning the first Mini Stock heat race and took his Honda to victory lane.  Dave Matthews beats Chris Hatcher to the stripe to win the second heat race.  Dave brings his car with the “groovy paint job” into victory lane. The sun begins to set and the action is about to heat up in the Geary Woods.The Maritime League of Legends Tour hits the track and immediately they go three-wide to the delight of our crowd.Waylon Farrell, who came all the way from Newfoundland, won the first Legends heat. Darren Sherwood, a former Pro Stock driver at 660, wins the second Legends heat race. It’s feature time and first up we’ve got the 25 lap Bando Blast with the best young “hot-shoes” from the east coast. The action is fast and furious with lots of great side-by-side battles throughout the field.Little Sam Rogers drove the 12 car into victory lane to win round one of the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bando Blast. BTW Sam missed his Bantam hockey try-outs to come to SpeedWeekend!Josh Langille was second in the feature. It was really great seeing these young talented drivers come to Speedway 660 to put on a show for our fans.Koven Lewis piloted his 11 car to an impressive third place finish in the Bando feature.It was also great to see a display of sportsmanship among the youngest drivers who were a big part of SpeedWeekend.The mini stocks were up next and they were so fast it was hard to focus on the side-by-side action out on the track.When all was said and done, Dave Matthews was back in victory lane. Dave’s strong effort earned him the win in the MJS Holdings East Coast Mini Stock Tour feature.Darren Flemming sported a big smile after a second place finish in his first trip to the Geary Woods.Neil Miousse, who ran a Sharp Shooter at 660 before moving to Nova Scotia, was third in the Mini Stock feature. It was great to see you return to your home track Neil.The Legends feature is next and there’s lots of incredible racing in this one.It wasn’t easy, but Cory Hall won the Maritime League of Legends 50 lapper. Cory had to battle hard to get the win, but it was all worth while in the end as he celebrated in victory lane.Justin MacNeill drove a nice, clean race and ended up being rewarded with second place.Darren Sherwood, who is still having a blast driving race cars, came home third in the Legends feature. Nice to see you back at 660 Darren!It’s time for the Martin’s Home Heating 150. Tim Terry introduces Drew Greenlaw as marketing partner Richard Martin and flagman Tim Elliott look on. The driver’s get buckled in and it’s just about time to go racing.At the mid race break the top five drivers randomly pick up hats which have the number of their new starting position. This scrambling of the leaders seemed to be popular with the fans. After the leaders lined up in their new positions there was a five lap dash for cash which paid the leader of lap 80 a cool $800.00. Russell Smith (#44) and Drew Greenlaw race side-by-side for that contingency award.Dave O’Blenis (#48) had the dominate car on this night and left everyone else to battle it out for second place.Drivers may age a little over time, but winning never gets old! Dave O’Blenis has won lots of races and championships over the years and its moments like this that keeps him fired up about racing.Dave goes to victory lane and collects the big cheque from Richard Martin.It was a great night for Team O’Blenis. Dave won the Martin’s Home Heating 150, while daughters Alexandra finished 4th and Courtney came home 9th.Drew Greenlaw finished second in the big race. Dana Alexander presents Drew with the Dana’s Collision Center Dash for Cash Award. With second place earnings and this contingency award, Drew had a pretty good night. Drew and his family and friends from Eastport, Maine were happy with the way things went on this night. Drew will be headed back to the University of Maine this week to continue his studies, good luck Drew, we’ll see you in May!John Rankin came home third in the Martin’s Home heating 150. And that’s a wrap on SpeedWeekend Saturday Night.SpeedWeekend Sunday arrives and there is lots happening in the pits on the biggest race day of the season.  Tires are always a big part of the story and these guys have got their hands full.Race officials meet with drivers and crew chiefs under the Speedway 660 Big Top!Qualifying begins for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 and Ryan Messer find himself in a big-time battle with Dylan Blenkhorn.Ryan wins it and the 2017 RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock Rookie of the Year earns the pole position for the 250.Lonnie Sommerville wins the second heat race and will start on the outside of row one. Everything was running smoothly until the third qualifying heat started and then the cars stacked up down in three and four! Brent Roy, Dustin Tucker, Derek Christie, Johnny Clark and Devin Snell are all involved in this hornet’s nest!The wild slide continues and as you can see we’ve got some damaged race cars. Derek Christie gets the worst of this deal and the 9 car is in a world of hurt. Derek’s car gets loaded on a flat-bed and heads to the pits for repairs. Johnny Clark enjoyed a better fate than Derek and went to victory lane. The two-time 250 winner has earned a good starting spot for this year’s race.The checkers fly for Ben Rowe who wins the fourth and final qualifying heat race to set the field for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. Round two of the TCM Bando blast sees Sam Rogers pick up where he left off on Saturday. Sam is right back in victory lane after winning the first Bando heat.  The second heat is fast paced with bumper-to-bumper action. Austin MacDonald gets up on the wheel to win that second heat.The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters come out to play and they excite the SpeedWeekend crowd with their special brand of racing.Tyler Crocker goes to victory lane and will start up front in the Sharp Shooter feature.  If you like your racing three-wide, you’ve come to the right place. Whoops – Rob Poirier  ends up in the beach on a sunny day in the Geary Woods.  Neil Miousse drives into victory lane, a place he visited many times before he moved to the Ocean Playground. Flash-back to the 1960’s! Nick Cudmore has come to run in the DMR Auto Street Stock division. Nice ride Nick. Chuck Mercer wins the first Street Stock heat race. Chuck, a former ENDURO star, loves coming back to 660. Shawn Hylsop wins the second Street Stock feature. Shawn was second in Street Stock points this year and looks for a good run in his final feature of the season. The Perfect Kid! Sam Rogers goes four for four at SpeedWeekend. He wraps up an incredible two days by winning his fourth straight race – the Tim’s Corner Motorsports  Bando Blast #2. Sam will remember SpeedWeekend 2017 for a long time. We hope to see you in 2018 young man and BTW good luck in your upcoming hockey season! Tim Terry congratulates Austin MacDonald on his podium finish. Josh Langille also gets a podium spot in the Bando Blast. He was on the podium both days. Josh and the other Bando Boys sure gave our fans lots to cheer about on SpeedWeekend.  Ian Rasmussen rolls into victory lane after a thrilling win in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature. Ian is also running a Pro Stock in the 250. Ian loves racing at Speedway 660. The Rasmussen’s come all the way from New Denmark every week. We appreciate all of our race teams, especially those who have to travel long distances to race in the Geary Woods. Tim Webster had a pretty good run in the Sharp Shooter feature, finishing third. And second place goes to Rob Poirier. After a visit to the beach, earlier in the day, a well rested Rob drove to a podium finish in his Sharp Shooter! Michael Cormier goes for a spin early in the 50 lap Street Stock feature. Michael did triple-duty on SpeedWeekend. In addition to Street Stock this busy kid drove Bando and Legend cars.  Matt Crocker won the final Street Stock feature of the season. Matt had a heck of a year and he’ll be a championship contender in 2018. James Matchett ran hard on Sunday, finishing second in the Street Stock feature.Shawn Hyslop drives home third in the final DMR Auto Sales Street Stock feature of the season.It’s time for driver intros before the start of the 250. Andy Fox, from McLaughlin Roof Trusses, shakes hands with Ben Rowe wishing him luck in the big race.Here’s the annual “class photo”. Only one of these 28 drivers will get to go home with the trophy and winner’s share of the purse in the biggest Pro Stock race of the season. Drivers get into their cars and their crew members make sure they are buckled up safely and ready to go hard for 250 laps.The last few minutes before the start of the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 are also a time for drivers to focus on the job ahead. It’s almost time to go racin. The moment we have been waiting for is finally close at hand.Lonnie Sommerville sprints out to the early lead. Sommerville, a two-time winner of this race, would lead several laps in this years 250.Johnny Clark, another two-time winner, would lead a lot of laps in his patented number 54.Lonnie and Johnny stayed up front for much of the race swapping the lead back and forth a few times. But after pit stops Cassius Clark, another two-time winner, drove to the front and never looked back!Andy Fox congratulates Cassius on his impressive win. Clark joins Shawn Tucker as the only three-time winner of the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250.Ashton Tucker impressed fans with his incredible second place finish. Not only that, Ashton won the Riverview Ford Tough $500 Hard Charger Award.Ashton also was the recipient of the Jordan Gahan Memorial Award for the highest finishing driver under the age of 25. Lonnie Sommerville had his two beautiful daughters on hand to help him celebrate a third place finish.Darren Sutherland presents Johnny Clark with the $1000.00 Modern Electric Half Way Challenge Award.  And here’s the podium shot. Clark, Tucker and Sommerville are joined by Andy Fox. It was a 250 all of these drivers and their families will long remember.Cassius and his entourage celebrate their third McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. Clark has already said he’ll be back in 2018 to try to become the first back-to-back winner and first four-time winner of this prestigious race.
