(Sept. 6, 2016) SpeedWeekend 2016 has come and gone, but we are left with great memories of incredible racing and friendships made or renewed. We invite you to check out our photo album from Speedway 660’s biggest weekend of racing. BTW this is our largest photo album of the year, so you might want to get a cup of tea or your other favourite beverage before you start scrolling!

SpeedWeekend 2016 got off to a sizzling start on Friday evening with our infield party, cornboil and concert.Some folks really got into the SpeedWeekend spirit and let their hair down!Fans of all ages got together and had lots of fun!Mucky Fingers had everyone groovin with their special brand of country-rock.Everybody was dancin in the moon-light and happy to be in the Geary Woods to kick-off SpeedWeekend.After a good night’s sleep and a day spent in anticipation of a great night of racing, fans were ready to see qualifying heats for the A.E. McKay Builders Sportsman 150.After the first two heat winners Luc Bourgeois and Kyle Reid forgot to visit victory lane, Russell Smith the winner of the third heat gave us an opportunity to get our first winner’s photo of SpeedWeekend.We were happy to welcome the Atlantic Modified Tour back to Speedway 660. Fans enjoy their unique brand of racing.The Atlantic Modified Tour, presented by Tucker Appraisals, saw Peter Chisholm won their first heat race. Justin Beers took the second ModTour heat race in his bright orange number one.We haven’t seen the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour, presented by Atlantic Tiltload, here for a few years. It sure was nice to welcome them back for the 2016 edition of SpeedWeekend.Jarrett Butcher was excited to be at Speedway 660 with his race team, family and friends. Young Butcher won the first Legend heat race. Cory Hall, a former Bando standout at 660, was back in the woods for SpeedWeekend and took the second Legend heat win.The Modified Tour feature was a good one with tight racing and spirited competition.With racing this close, there was bound to be an incident…….or two!For the second year in a row Mike Raeburn wins the Atlantic Modified Tour feature on SpeedWeekend.  “Sparky” has been around this game for a long time and obviously loves to come to 660 for the biggest event of the season!Joe Hoyt takes second in the  feature. Joe has been racing these cars for over a decade and is one of the “Founding Fathers” of the Atlantic Modified Tour. Justin Beers followed up his impressive heat win with a strong 3rd place finish in the feature.Sparky, Joe and Justin share a moment in the Riverview Ford Victory Lane. The Atlantic Modified Tour, presented by Tucker Appraisals put on a good show for our fans.Time for the Legends 50 lap feature. Man these little cars & drivers  were impressive!Zack, a recipient of a Make a Wish Foundation wish, goes to victory lane with Cory Hall. Cory used his Bando experience at Speedway 660 to take the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour feature.Jarrett Butcher, who was second in the Legends feature,  enjoyed his trip to SpeedWeekend.Waylon Farrell had a nice run and came home third in the feature.Here’s your podium for the Upper Clements Parks Legends Tour feature. It sure was to have the Legends back at 660. Hopefully they will be a part of SpeedWeekend for many years to come! Tom Gilmore brings out the Riverview Ford pace truck to get things lined up for the A.E. McKay Builders Sportsman 150. Here they are coming to the green to get things started. There were some cautions early on, but these drivers really picked things up in the second half of the race.Drew Greenlaw (#23) dominated the race and led the most laps, but a late incident literally took him out and ruined his chances to win the biggest sportsman race of the season. Drew deserved better and maybe next year he’ll have another chance to win it all.But Drew’s bad luck made it possible for his good friend to step up. Ryan Messer had an unbelievable 2016 racing season. On August 27th he became the youngest Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman champ and on Speed Weekend he won the A.E. McKay Builders 150! Now the 15 year old is all set to go back to Harvey High SchoolLaurie Cormier brought his 53 to a second place finish in the big sportsman race. After a 3rd place run in 15, Laurie figures he’ll come back next year and win this race. Alexandra O’Blenis had lots to smile about Saturday night. Alex finished her Speedway 660 season with a nice 3rd place finish.There were big smiles from everyone on the  A.E. McKay Builders Sportsman 150 podium.One last photo from Saturday night – Ryan is happy about the biggest “pay-day” in his racing career (so far). Time to move on to Sunday.There were lots of fans and the campground was full for SpeedWeekend 2016. We thank everyone for making this year’s SpeedWeekend one of the most successful ever.“This is my very first SpeedWeekend and I’m kinda wondering what’s all this excitement about and what are these things you’ve got covering my ears?”Dustin Tucker wins the first heat race on Sunday and gets the pole position for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. Dustin’s Dad Shawn won the 250 three times, but never sat on the pole. Nice job D-Man!Matt Harris wins the second heat race and that puts two Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock drivers on the front row for the 250! Craig Slaunwhite, the 2008 winner of the 250, takes the 3rd qualifying heat race and earns a great starting position in the big race. Brady Creamer, from the Miramichi, wins the fourth and final qualifying heat race. Brady’s car was wicked fast and he can’t wait to bring it out for the 250.Tim’s Corner Motorsports brought the Bandoleros back to Speedway 660 for SpeedWeekend. Fans were thrilled to see these little cars back on the track.Brayden Langille won their first heat race on Sunday afternoon. Brayden won a lot of Bando races here in 2015 and looked pretty strong in this heat.Michael Cormier followed up Langille’s impressive run with a win in his heat race.The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters are up next. Hold on a minute, what’s that? For SpeedWeekend 2016 we invited the imports to race against our domestic 4cyl-front wheel drives. There were almost 30 of these units in the Geary Woods on Sunday!Ian Rasmussen wins the first Sharp Shooter heat race. Ian ran as a rookie in the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division this year. This was the first time we saw him run the little Sharp Shooter and man was he ever fast!Rob Poirier and his funky looking Sharp Shooter rolled to victory in the second heat race. Poirier and the other imports were sure looking pretty strong out there.Mike Weagle wins the third sharp shooter heat. Hey Mike, that’s a pretty cool colour scheme, especially those awesome blue sneakers! Out come the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock and Shawn Hyslop wins their first heat. Shawn only ran the last couple of weeks this season, but says he plans on coming back full-time in 2017. The folks from beautiful Charlotte County are gonna be happy to hear that Shawn.In her final day of street stock racing at 660, Courtney O’Blenis wins her  heat race. Don’t worry fans, she’ll be back in 17 running for the Martins Home Heating Sportsman Rookie of the Year! After a couple of pro stock consi races, the Bandos came out for their 30 lap feature. There was a full field of cars and fans loved watching these 8 to 16 year old youngsters put on a show.Sam Rogers drove hard and went to victory lane at his “new favourite race track.” Josh Langille barely beats Michael Cormier to the start finish line to pick up second place. Sam, Josh and Michael are happy to be at SpeedWeekend and even happier to be on the podium. We want to thank Tim’s Corner Motorsports for bringing the Bando Blast to SpeedWeekend.Ian Rasmussen and Mike Weagle had a great race up front in the sharp shooter feature. With a couple of laps to go Ian slid up into the beach and Michael sailed on to the win. Mike and his Dad made a last minute decision to come to Speedway 660 and they were sure glad they did. Mike followed up his heat race win with the victory in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature.Matt Crocker did a nice job racing against the imports. Matt brought his little domestic sharp shooter home in second place.Rob Poirier finished an impressive third in the sharp shooter feature. The car count was higher and the racing tougher and a little rougher than Rob is used to in the southern part of the province, but he hung in there and grabbed the final podium position.Courtney O’Blenis drove the wheels off the 48 on her way to a win in the DMR Auto Sales Street Stock feature.  She owned the street stock victory lane in 2016 and will be back in May as a Martins Home Heating Sportsman rookie.Rob Raynes had to settle for second place in the street stock feature. Rob is unsure whether he’ll retire, run a part time schedule or come back full-time in 2017. Shawn Hyslop came home 3rd on Sunday afternoon. Shawn will spend the long off-season in anticipation of returning to 660 as a full-time street stocker in 2017. Its time for driver introductions for the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. Joey Doiron shakes hands with Wayne Smith, from Speedway 660 Ministries.Lonnie Sommerville signs the Make a Wish Foundation car hood just before getting into his own car. Joey Polewarczyk and the other drivers signed a special helmet before the race. Everett Gilmore, from Riverview Ford, looked after that process before the helmet was awarded to a lucky fan.Andy Fox, from McLaughlin Roof Trusses, gets together with the 28 drivers that will start the 250 for the traditional pre-race photo.The crowd anticipates the start of the race and gets ready for an awesome show.Race officials move into position and get ready to go to work.Race Director Brent Dunphy and his assistants are preparing for the race to go green.Tim Terry goes over last minute details with Speedway 660’s Max Roy before heading upstairs to take his position in the announce booth.The cars double up in preparation to get after it! Dustin Tucker (#52) gets off to a great start and leads the first dozen laps. At $50 a lap he earns $600 in the first three minutes of the race!Then Cassius Clark takes over and leads until right around lap 40.Greg Fahey works his way to the front to lead the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 for a bunch of laps. After Greg made a little contact with a lapped car his fender started rubbing the right front tire and he had to pit under green and that was it for the 29. Dave O’Blenis was able to pit under caution and when he came out he roared to the front. As the laps wound down O’Blenis got a little loose, caught a bad break in lapped traffic and had to settle for fourth.Joey Doiron and Cassius Clark pitted at the same time and then raced each other hard for the win. In the end Joey D got to the stripe first and the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 was his!Joey is a pretty happy young man after Andy Fox presents him with the 250 trophy and cheque for almost $18,000!Cassius Clark led several laps, including the Modern Electric thousand dollar half-way challenge, on his way to a second place finish in the 250.Ben Rowe, driving for “Hurricane” Hal O’Neal, finished third. Ben has been on the podium several times at 660, and says he’ll come back next year with hopes of finally winning the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250. Andy Fox joins Joey, Cassius and Ben on the 250 podium. These guys and the other 25 other drivers put on a great show for the SpeedWeekend fans.Lisa MacIntosh, from Re/Max Group Four Realty, counts out the cash for this young 50/50 winner from Newfoundland. He won over $5000 and the other half went to our guest charity, the Brain Tumour Association.   As the sun sets on the 2016 edition of SpeedWeekend, we’d like to thank all of the fans, marketing partners, race teams and our staff and volunteers for making this an incredible event.
