Sommerville & Fahey: Coming back to Pro Stock
(May 7, 2015) : The 2015 short-track season is just a little over a week away. On Sunday, May 17th, Speedway 660 will welcome back fans, marketing partners, drivers, crews and staff. Our season advancer has lots of news including the return of two top drivers to the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock Division.
Speedway 660 – 2015 Season Advancer
The top division at Speedway 660 just got a lot more competitive. Lonnie Sommerville, a two-time Re/Max 250 winner and Greg Fahey, a three time pro stock champion, will both return to run for the title in 2015. That makes things a whole lot tougher for all of the pro stock teams including Dave O’Blenis, a five time champ, who won the title for the last three years.Lonnie Sommerville is a fan favourite at Speedway 660. He will return to the Geary Woods to compete for the Pro Stock championship in 2015.
“We think fans will really be excited about the return of Fahey and Sommerville to the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock division in 2015” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “We are proud to be the only track in Atlantic Canada to run a weekly pro stock division and the addition of Greg and Lonnie will certainly take this strong brand of racing to a much higher level.”
Greg Fahey is back! After taking a break from Pro Stock to win a Sportsman title and becoming the only driver to win championships in all of Speedway 660’s top three divisions, Greg has his sights set on a triumphant return to Pro Stock in 2015.
The New Brunswick Short Track Challenge will make its debut in 2015. Speedway 660, Petty International Speedway and Speedway Miramichi recently announced plans for the three race Sportsman series. The first race will be held at Speedway 660 on June 6th.
“We’re really happy to work with New Brunswick’s two other short tracks to bring fans this three race Sportsman series and look forward to hosting the first event in early June” said Roy. “The three 100 lap races will give Sportsman drivers an opportunity to compete for a provincial championship and give fans a chance to follow the series at our three tracks.”Sportsman racing is always exciting. Fans are looking forward to the New Brunswick Short Track Challenge which begins on the first weekend in June at Speedway 660.
Speedway 660 also has three key staff changes to announce heading into the 2015 season. Brent Dunphy is the new race director; Jessica White is the new official scorer and; Tim Elliott is the new flagman. All three are already well known in the Geary Woods and are anxious to take on their new roles in the sport.
“Brent has been involved with racing in Geary for many years and brings a lot of experience to the race director position, while Tim has extensive experience as the assistant flagman and Jessica has been scoring races here for several seasons” said Roy. “I want to thank Brian Speight, Joe Barrieau and Wallace Carr for their many years of service and know they will continue to part of the Speedway 660 racing family.”
Speedway 660’s Pre-Tech and Practice Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th at 1PM. The Riverview Ford Season Opener is set for Sunday, May 17th at 2PM. Racing will continue to be scheduled on Sunday afternoons (May 24th & 31st) before the first night race of the season goes on Saturday, June 6th.
The long wait is almost over! Speedway 660`s racing season is set to begin on Sunday, May 17th, but don`t forget there`s a practice session on Saturday, the 16th.
