Salute to You – Fan Appreciation Night Saturday at Speedway 660

Last Updated: August 15, 2019By

(GEARY, NB – August 15th, 2019) – Speedway 660 will focus on the fans Saturday evening with the annual Fan Appreciation Night taking place in the Geary woods. In addition to a pre-event autograph session on track at 5:30pm and giveaways throughout the evening, the best stock car fans in the Province of New Brunswick will be treated to exciting racing action in all four house divisions. The RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, DMR Auto Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter divisions will contest their penultimate championship point race on the year. The racing action will get the green flag at 6:30pm on Saturday, August 17th.

Last Sunday afternoon proved that no point lead is safe. One only needs to look at the DMR Auto Street Stock division where, for seemingly the first time this season, Roger Slocum (Chipman, NB) has lost the top spot in the standings. After not starting last Sunday’s 30-lap feature, the lead swung the way of Charlotte County driver Chris Hanley (St. Stephen, NB). The swing was 11 points, which will mean Hanley occupies a six point advantage on Slocum with two events remaining. Rick Cashol (Saint John, NB), who scored his first podium and first heat race win of the season, is comfortably in third in the standings but will look to take home his first feature victory for his fans on Saturday evening during Fan Appreciation Night.

Coming off the Gunslinger 50, the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division returns their focus to the championship stretch drive. With only two races remaining, Brody Levesque (Fredericton, NB) leads the rookie Tristan Harris (Harvey, NB) by 13 points. Levesque sat out the Gunslinger 50 due to injury and handed the wheel to Matt Crocker one week ago. Matt Martin (Haneytown, NB), Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton, NB) and Jon Forsythe (Oromocto, NB) complete the top five in the standings heading into Fan Appreciation Night. A total of 31 cars have raced in at least one of the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter races this season.

Even with Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) picking up his fourth feature win of the season last weekend, Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) was able to gain a single point in the championship chase via his heat finish in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman class. Collins still has a 14 point lead on Atkinson in the division, but no lead is safe with two events to go in an ultra competitive class like the Late Model Sportsman at Speedway 660. Ryan Raynes (Saint John, NB) inherited third in the points, but with a 56 point deficit, he’ll need some help to claw his way back into the championship discussion heading into next Saturday’s Night of Champions.

Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) maintained the point lead, even with missing the podium in last week’s RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division. Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB) not only picked up his second feature win of the year last Sunday but he also picked up second place in the standings. The gap between the two former champions heading into Fan Appreciation Night is 33 points. Ian Rasmussen (New Denmark, NB) is positioned third, 24 points behind Fahey.

Returning for 2019, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.

Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday’s Fan Appreciation Night is $15 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $18 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1:00pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5pm, the annual Fan Appreciation Night Autograph Session opens on track at 5:30pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm. A complete race day format will be available via Speedway660.com later in the week.
