MODERN ELECTRIC POWERS RACE FOR SPEEDWEEKEND HALFWAY BONUSES
(August 28th, 2023) – While the Pro Stock 250 is a 250-lap slugfest, and likewise the Riverview Ford Sportsman 150 is a grueling 150-lap affair, every year a thrilling battle ensues for the lead as the halfway break approaches.
It’s long been a tradition as part of Speedweekend, and in 2023 the Modern Electric Halfway Bonus is back, awarding $1000 to the leader of the halfway lap of the Pro Stock 250, and $500 to the leader of the halfway lap during the Riverview Ford Sportsman 150
The Pro Stock 250 is a race featuring a lap bonus of $50 a lap, plus live pit stops, strategy always comes into play. While most laps pay $50 to lead – with the final lap paying $15,000 to win – lap 125 produces a hefty payday as well. Often it forces drivers to choose whether to pit early or stay on track and use track position to try and take the bonus.
”For years, the Modern Electric Halfway Bonus has created a mid-race twist in the Pro Stock 250 and Riverview Ford Sportsman 150, adding intensity for drivers and electrifying the show for fans,” said Brent Roy of Speedway 660. “We are ecstatic for Darren Sutherland and the Modern Electric team to keep this tradition alive and look forward to the excitement that grows as the midpoint of the race approaches!”
The last two years, the Modern Electric Halfway Bonus in the Pro Stock 250 was won by Cory Hall. Last year, Hall claimed the bonus in a race he dominated by leading 161 laps – but would come up short after running out of fuel as Ashton Tucker made history with his third Pro Stock 250 win. While Tucker chases a record setting fourth win, he has in fact only earned the bonus once in his three wins – he was the 2020 recipient of the Modern Electric Halfway bonus.
Brady Creamer (#10) earned the Modern Electric Halfway Bonus for the Riverview Ford Sportsman 150 last season en route to victory – albeit he did not cruise to victory following a dramatic second half that saw him capitalize on late race restarts to regain the lead.
