(GEARY, NB – May 16th, 2021) – Ryan Messer (Harvey, NB) shook the monkey off his back en route to the victory in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock 75 at Speedway 660 on Sunday. The former Pro Stock 250 winner, who has seen his share of bad luck in extended distance Pro Stock races over the past two seasons across the region, was quick all afternoon, controlling the field on a final 23 lap run to the checkered flag on Sunday. Messer was joined on the podium during the Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener by former RE/MAX East Coast Elite Pro Stock track champions Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) and Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB).
The first and only caution flag of the 75-lap feature flew on Lap 52 when Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) developed mechanical issues while running in third. Tucker had won the last four major RE/MAX East Coast Elite Pro Stock races at Speedway 660 leading into Sunday, including the last two Pro Stock 250s. Tucker won his qualifying heat race to kick off the day in the 11-car field while Kevin Moore (Fredericton, NB) was victorious in the other.
Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) emerged as the winner in a wild finish to the Late Model Sportsman feature. O’Blenis was in third on the final lap when then leaders Luc McLaughlin (Geary, NB) and Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) came together, opening the door for Alexandra to capitalize and drive on for the victory. Destiny Enkel (Darlings Island, NB) raced to a second place finish while McLaughlin was able to get across the finish of the 40-lap feature in third. Enkel and Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) raced to the win in their respective heat races.
Nick Cudmore (Petitcodiac, NB) was awarded the DMR Auto Sales and Service Street Stock feature victory on Sunday afternoon at Speedway 660. In an action packed 30-laps of racing, Cudmore was able to hold off SpeedWeekend 2020 winner Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB) and Darcy O’Neill (Miramichi, NB), who came off a Street Stock win less than 24 hours prior at Speedway Miramichi. Rick Cashol (Saint John, NB) had crossed the line first but did not pass post race technical inspection. Cudmore started off the day strong by winning his heat race. Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) was victorious in the second heat.
The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters saw BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) take home the feature win during the Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener. Matt Martin (Geary, NB) and Randy Titus (French Lake, NB) raced to the podium in a caution littered race that was shortened to 10 laps. Twenty-four cars began the day with Gillespie, Titus and Ryan Bernard picking up qualifying heat wins.
Please note, all results are unofficial pending post race technical inspection and will be posted as official later in the week at Speedway660.com.
Speedway 660 is back in action with their first Saturday evening race of the season.
