Mercer wins Enduro Race and Championship
August 19, 2012- Chuck and Randy Mercer won the final racing event of SpeedWeekend at Speedway 660 on Monday afternoon. The Mercer boys, from Norton claimed the Enduro 200 and Enduro title. A large crowd cheered wildly as the Mercer’s celebrated their first championship on Speedway 660`s front stretch.
“This is incredible, a win today, second place in the first two Enduros and a Speedway 660 championship” said Chuck Mercer. “This is a great car and I want to thank the boys in the crew who worked hard all season to give us a chance to win this race and championship.”
The Mercer victory ended a three year Enduro championship reign for Pat Sharpe from Woodstock. Sharpe won the first two Enduros of 2012 but on SpeedWeekend he ran into mechanical issues, finished 4th and lost the title by two points.
“First off congratulations to the Mercer boys, they did a great job this year and deserve to win the championship” said Sharpe. “But I also want to thank my crew, we had a tough day and spent some time in the pits, but they got me out to finish the race.”
Nathan Gallant of Fredericton finished second in the final Enduro race of the season and finished third in the point standings. Brody Seveck, from Temperance Vale finished third in the race, while Justin Kenny, from Hoyt, won the one hundred fifty dollar prize for spinning out the most cars.
The Enduro was the final event on Speedway 660’s 2012 racing calendar and wrapped up an exciting SpeedWeekend.
