Martin’s Home Heating 100: A WicKID, Wild Weekend for Sportsman!
Fredericton, NB: Some of Atlantic Canada’s best race teams are ready to roar into action Saturday evening at Speedway 660. The Martin’s Home Heating 100, one of the top Sportsman events of the year, will cap off a full evening of short-track racing in the Geary Woods.
“Sportsman is an exciting brand of racing and our fans know they will see great, competitive action during Saturday evening’s hundred lapper” said Speedway 660’s Chris Johnston. “We are proud of our weekly Sportsman drivers and know they will run hard to prove to our fans that they can meet the challenge of those strong visiting teams.”
Ken MacKenzie will drive the car he won the last two Speedway 660 Sportsman championships with during this weekend’s Martin’s Home Heating 100. MacKenzie and Dave O’Blenis will both run Sportsman and Pro Stock cars on Saturday evening.
Some of the strongest competition may come from two A.L. Gullison Disaster Kleenup Pro Stock racers, who will see double duty this weekend. Dave O’Blenis and Ken MacKenzie are bringing Sportsman cars to the track as well as their Pro Stock rides. Fans can also expect to see several other race teams, making their first 2012 visits to Speedway 660, in an effort to win the Martin’s Home Heating 100.
“Dave has a real strong sportsman car and I plan on dusting off the car that won the last two Speedway 660 Sportsman championships” said MacKenzie. “Dave’s two daughters and my son will be running their Bandos, so we’ll be bringing seven cars out of one race shop – it’s a busy week, but we’ll be ready.”
In addition to the excitement surrounding the first big Sportsman race of the season, fans will be treated to action in four other divisions. The Hanwell Village Mart Bandoleros, 4 cylinders, RV World Street Stocks and A.L. Gullison Disaster Kleenup Pro Stocks will all race for championship points.
“The Martin’s Home Heating 100 is recognized as one of the best Sportsman races of the season and has a history of providing fans with exciting finishes” said Johnston. “There’s a lot of anticipation among drivers and fans for this event and with four other divisions racing, the action is going to be fast and furious all evening.”
Street Stock, Pro Stock and Sportsman qualifying heats for the Martin’s Home Heating 100 get underway at 7PM on Saturday. Heat races in the Bandolero and 4 cylinder divisions kick off at 6:20PM.
