LUC MCLAUGHLIN EARNS REDEEMING CHECKERED FLAG IN TARGETT’S WINDOWS AND DOORS 100!

Last Updated: July 28, 2024By

(July 28th, 2024) – After walking away disappointed at the Ricky Bobby 150, Luc McLaughlin (#11) had to sit and wait nearly a month for his shot at redemption. On Saturday night, he made good on that bid by driving from mid-pack to the race lead, and holding off the toughest challengers on a late race restart to return to Riverview Ford victory lane in the Targett’s Windows and Doors Street Stock 100.

McLaughlin started ninth and methodically picked his way through traffic before grabbing the lead from Riley Goodwin (#77) on lap 39, and then checking out and taking complete control of the second half of the race. Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock points leader Justin Cole (#38) had followed McLaughlin around Goodwin shortly after, and both Cole and Goodwin would be in position to try and steal away the win from McLaughlin on the late restart. However, McLaughlin was just too strong and raced away while Cole and Goodwin settled for second and third respectively. Shawn Hyslop (#17) and Karl Schaefer (#00) rounded out the top five.

Goodwin and Dan Gillespie (#83) captured heat race victories to set the grid for the eighteen (18) car field for the Targett’s Windows and Doors 100. This would be McLaughlin’s first win in this event.

In Summit Dodge Sportsman competition, a 50-lap feature was held and it was a huge win for Matt Rodgers (#42). Rodgers avenged a runner-up finish on a last lap pass from one month ago by taking the lead and driving off to Riverview Ford victory lane. It was nearly a two-second gap back to runner-up Jacob Logan (#37), with Drew Greenlaw (#23) completing the podium in third. Richard Atkinson (#40) and Maine competitor Jeff Alley (#24) rounded out the top five in the fast paced race that was completed in just fifteen minutes.

Greenlaw was the winner of the ten-lap heat race to begin the day. Six (6) Summit Dodge Sportsman competitors were in attendance.

It was a highly celebrated and much anticipated return to Riverview Ford victory lane for Charlotte County’s Greg Fahey (#20) on Saturday night for the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division. Fahey took the lead early and raced away to his first feature victory since 2019 in the Geary Woods. As Fahey grabbed the checkered flag, the intriguing championship battle remained tight, as top two in points Ian Rasmussen (#81) and Kevin Moore (#88) finished second and third respectively. Marcel Leblanc (#30) and Ryan Raynes (#94) rounded out the top five.

Fahey was also victorious in his ten-lap heat race to kick off the day. Ten (10) Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock competitors were on the property for the race.

Defending Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter champion Darren Wilcox (#32) earned his second victory of the season in the 30-lap feature. Wilcox nabbed the lead in the opening laps and was able to open up a sizable gap that he maintained all the way to the finish. From mid-pack, points leader BJ Gillespie (#69) raced into a podium position and would steal the runner-up spot from Tyler Collett (#21) on the final lap, as Collett settled for third and his first career podium finish. Austin Harnish (#13) and Curtis Tremblay (#00) rounded out the top five.

Collett and Gillespie captured heat race victories. Eighteen (18) Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter competitors partook in the event.

Next up for Speedway 660 will be the marquee event on the calendar for the Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter division. It will be the GunSlinger 75 on Saturday August 10th at 6:30pm, with the Atlantic Modified Tour joining the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock and Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock divisions on the card.
