JUSTIN COLE CLAIMS RICKY BOBBY 150 GLORY!

Last Updated: July 2, 2023By

(July 1st, 2023) – Justin Cole (#38) made it two big Street Stock wins in a row at Speedway 660 – but this time it was the biggest race of them all! Cole crossed the line first in a shower of sparks after a dominating, but hard-fought victory at Speedway 660 in the Ricky Bobby 150. Cole had to fend off many challenges throughout the race and beat former winners of the Ricky Bobby 150 to add his name to the elusive list of winners.

Luc McLaughlin (#11) lost power steering in the final third of the race but mounted several charges, crossing the line in second. However, following post race technical inspection, Michael Cormier (#68) would be scored second with Darcy O’Neill (#68x) on the podium in third. Shawn Hyslop (#99) and Andrew Rodgers, subbing for Rick Cashol (#54) rounded out the top five.

Four lead changes between two drivers took place. Cole led the first twenty laps, but Kenny MacKenzie Jr (#85) would claim the lead on the twenty-first lap. The duo exchanged the top spot several times, before Cole regained the lead for the final time on a restart on lap 43. In total, Justin Cole would lead 129 out of the 150 laps contested. MacKenzie Jr looked to be a threat to win, but he and others would fall victim to attrition. For MacKenzie Jr, a flat tire hampered his efforts. Riley Goodwin (#77) saw a potential good finish go up in smoke, while Logan Power (#58) would spin out while battling for a podium position.

Riley Goodwin (#77), Mitchell Arsenault (#51) and Luc McLaughlin (#11) took home victories in 10-lap heat races. Cole would earn the pole however, capitalizing on the passing points system being utilized with a +5 points score in his heat race.

This win, while by far the biggest, was the tenth career victory for Justin Cole at Speedway 660 in the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division.

Ryan Messer (#1) continued his late model dominance in the Geary Woods, extending his personal win streak to four consecutive races with a win during Saturday’s seventy-five lap Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock feature. Messer took a commanding win, while Dave O’Blenis (#48) outduelled Hudson Weston (#43) for second. Ian Rasmussen (#81) and Curtis Collins (#27) rounded out the top five.

Eight Pro Stocks were in attendance for the seventy-five-lap feature, but Kevin Moore (#88) did not make the call to the grid. The Pro Stock feature ran caution free. Messer scored the win in the ten-lap heat race. For Messer, it was his thirteenth career victory in the Pro Stock division at Speedway 660.

Darren Wilcox (#32) stole the win away in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division, capitalizing on race leader BJ Gillespie (#69) faltering in the closing laps. Wilcox stalked the defending champion in Gillespie, and when disaster struck with two laps to go was able to take advantage to score the victory. Jason Duffield (#91) would cross the line in second, with Randy Titus (#75) in third.

Evan Gallon (#9) started up front but had an issue on the opening lap – that would prove to be no issue, as he battled back to fourth. Points leader entering the night Alex Gallant (#5) rounded out the top five. Based on the results, the points battle will only tighten between Wilcox, Titus, and Gallant. BJ Gillespie would drop to sixth place after leading the majority of the laps.

Evan Gallon (#9) and Todd Day (#4) took victories in heat races. It was the first career victory for Day. The feature was slowed by just two cautions. Eighteen Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter drivers were in attendance. This was Darren Wilcox’s first career win in the Sharp Shooter division.

Speedway 660 now enters a mid-summer break, with the next event being a double header weekend on July 29th and July 30th. Saturday July 29th features the popular Christmas in July race which sees all Speedway 660 house classes on the card, while Sunday July 30th will see the long-awaited return of Enduro competition to Speedway 660! Stay tuned for more information on these exciting races.
