It’s time to Crown our Champions and Rookies!

Speedway 660 history could be made at the 2014 Night of Champions on Saturday. The racing will be intense as Championship trophies and Rookie of the Year awards will be handed out in all five racing divisions.

“The Night of Champions is always exciting and the drivers are going to give it all they’ve got to claim those championships, rookie awards or just try to move up into a top five or top ten position in the points” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “We could see several first time champions crowned in their divisions and we might even see some history made in the Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock division.”

Daughters, Alexandra (left)  is tied for Sportsman Rookie of the Year and Courtney (2nd from right) is 2nd in Bando points. The Night of Champions is bound to be nerve-racking for Dave’s wife and the girl’s Mom Corrie (far right)!

After winning the feature on Fan Appreciation Night, Dave O’Blenis took over the 2014 Pro Stock points lead. Another strong outing could give O’Blenis his third consecutive championship, something no driver in any Speedway 660 division has ever done. Another championship would also break the tie between O’Blenis and Glenn Rasmussen who both have four Pro Stock titles.

Two of the closest championship battles are in the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock and Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman divisions. Brent Roy has a narrow three point lead over Matt Rodgers in Sportsman, while Luc McLaughlin is just six up on Robert Raynes in Street Stock.

The Sportsman Rookie of the Year Award is dead-locked heading into the Night of Champions. Drew Greenlaw and Alexandra O’Blenis are tied for fourth place in the over-all Sportsman standings and the Rookie Award likely won’t be decided until the checkered flag waves in their feature race.

“The racing has been great at Speedway 660 all season long and we’re in for an incredible show this Saturday night” said Roy. “There’s a lot on the line during the Night of Champions and I know our drivers are ready to give our fans something to cheer about.”

Drew Greenlaw Sportsman heat winner June 28, 2014 Drew Greenlaw hopes to follow up his 2013 Bando championship with a Martin’s Home Heating 2014 Rookie of the Year Award.  Drew is tied with Alexandra O’Blenis heading into our Night of Champions.

The Westwood Estate Apartments Bandolero and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter heat races begin at 6:20. Then at 7PM the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock heat races will be held.
