HO! HO! HO! SATURDAY IS CHRISTMAS IN JULY AT SPEEDWAY 660
Full card of action is highlighted by RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock 150
(GEARY, NB – July 15th, 2021) – Whether you are on the naughty or nice list, motorsport fans will be treated to a great evening of stock car racing on Saturday evening at Speedway 660. The Geary, New Brunswick oval will host their popular Christmas in July event on Saturday, July 17th beginning at 6:30pm. The RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stocks will return for 150-laps with support from the Late Model Sportsman, DMR Auto Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters.
The last RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock race at Speedway 660 came down to a final 20 lap dash in June between Ryan Messer (Harvey, NB) and Kevin Moore (Fredericton, NB). Messer had come from behind after a pit stop on the first competition caution of that 100-lap event and while Moore appeared to have Messer cleared on the final restart, the driver of “Big Orange” was able to get by Moore and drive on to the win.
Messer has won the last two Pro Stock events contested at the track in 2021 and will look to extend his streak to three. Messer will be in tough with a host of strong Pro Stock drivers from across the province and beyond looking to take the checkered flag on Saturday night. Ian Rasmussen (New Denmark, NB) drove to a podium finish last time out in July, besting former Pro Stock track titlists Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) and Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) for the third place hardware. Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB) will make his return to the track and will have his sights set on his first feature victory of the season in the No. 23 car. A full entry list is unavailable as of press time but approximately a dozen cars are expected to compete on Saturday evening in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty 150.
Returning to the track on Saturday is Austin MacDonald (Pictou, NS). MacDonald, who won in his last Pro Stock appearance at Speedway 660 last August, will pilot the iconic No. 13 King Racing entry in his first Late Model start of 2021.
Santa Claus brought fans and drivers an early gift to Christmas in July as the Late Model Sportsman division has been added to the card for Saturday for a point event. Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) is the most recent winner in the division after scoring a thrilling victory over Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) on June 26th. Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) leads her younger sister Courtney O’Blenis by a single point after two events.
After two races, Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB) shows the way over Tristin Harris (Harvey, NB) and Caleb Urquhart (Charters Settlement, NB) in the DMR Auto Street Stock division. Former champion Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB) is the most recent winner in the division. In Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter action, BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) has a slim six point advantage over Randy Titus (French Lake, NB) and Randy Storey (Royal Road, NB) in the standings. Twenty-eight Sharp Shooter entries have competed in at least one race this season and the action is set to be hot during Christmas in July this Saturday.
Should inclement weather interfere with Saturday’s racing program, a rain date has been set aside for Sunday, July 18th at 2pm. Fans are encouraged to keep up to the track’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Speedway660 for the latest information on Saturday’s card.
For the fifth straight season, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.
Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday night’s racing card is $20 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 12pm on Saturday, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm. A complete race day format will be available via the track’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Speedway660.
Please note, due to COVID-19 regulations in the Province of New Brunswick, Speedway 660 is required to collect contact information from every individual that attends this event.
