Firecracker 150 & Christmas in July this weekend!

Last Updated: July 20, 2017By

(July 20, 2017) Speedway 660 hosts the Firecracker 150 this Saturday night at 6:30PM. It’s one of the biggest Sportsman races in Atlantic Canada and will feature the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division drivers. Other race teams, from all over the Maritimes, have also been invited to enter the race.

Fans will also be treated to action in the RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock, DMR Auto Sales Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter divisions. But racing is not the only thing on the agenda Saturday evening. Fans will also be treated to Christmas in July festivities with lots of giveaways and an appearance by a special visitor.

“Santa will make a visit to the Geary Woods on Saturday evening with giveaways for the kids, free admission for kids 15 and under, a prize for the best decorated camper and lots of other surprises” said Speedway 660’s Michelle Roy. “Christmas in July, combined with a great night of racing, is a way for us to do something special for our amazing fans who support racing at Speedway 660 every week.”ImageOur Christmas in July promotion combined with the Firecracker 150, racing in three other exciting divisions and free admission for all kids 15 and under will make for a great evening of family entertainment at Speedway 660.

Drivers and race teams are looking forward to the Firecracker 150. It’s the last big Sportsman race before the McKay Builders 150 on SpeedWeekend. The race is always hotly contested by some of our region’s best drivers.

“This race is a highlight of our season and every team and driver wants to run hard, do their best to entertain our fans and come away with a big win” said Eastport, Maine’s Drew Greenlaw. “We’ve come close to winning one of these big races in the past and I’m hoping the lessons we learned and those past experiences will help take us to victory lane for the first time this Saturday in the Firecracker 150.”Drew Greenlaw 2nd place MHH Sportsman 100 June 18, 2017Drew Greenlaw had a great run in the Martin’s Home Heating 100 back in the middle of June. Drew settled for second, something he has done more than once in these big races. The young driver from Eastport is hoping to get to victory lane on Saturday night.

Earlier this year Greenlaw ran second in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportman 100. John Rankin won that race, while Alexandra O’Blenis drove to a third place finish. Rankin currently has a slim one point advantage over Greenlaw in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman championship race.

“We were pretty happy with the car in the hundred lap race back on Father’s Day, but know we’re going to have to be a lot better in the Firecracker 150” said Rankin. “The competition is fierce and every driver out there wants to win these big races, so we’re going to have to be patient in the early going, save our tires and brakes and hopefully that will put us in a position to go for another win late in the race.”_DSC2759John Rankin and his team celebrated a big Sportsman victory earlier this season. John would like to make it two in a row, but knows he has his work cut out for him when he arrives at 660 this Saturday.

Adult ticket prices are $20, all kids 15 and under will be admitted free of charge and adult pit passes are $5. The rain date for the Firecracker 150 and Christmas in July is Sunday at 2PM. If the weather is unsettled on Saturday morning fans and race teams should call the race line at 506-454-7223 or visit www.speedway660.com for race day status updates.

Speedway 660 is gearing up for the Clark Chevrolet Best of the Best Pro Stock 150 on July 29th before taking the long August holiday weekend off. But this weekend fans will be treated to the Firecracker Sportsman 150 and Christmas in July.

Speedway 660 is one of Canada’s premier stock car racing facilities. Located in New Brunswick’s Fredericton region, it attracts race teams and fans from the Maritimes, New England and Quebec. The Speedway 660 racing season runs from mid May until Labour Day Weekend. SpeedWeekend, one of the most prestigious short track events in eastern North America, wraps up Speedway 660’s racing  season.
