Double Header Weekend – Firecracker 150 and Enduro 200!

Last Updated: August 5, 2009By

Fredericton– After having a weekend off, last weekend, fans can come back to the track this weekend for a full slate of action which includes a Double Header weekend.  This Saturday night and Sunday afternoon fans will get to see it all. There will be regular points racing in the Coast Tire Street Stock and AOW divisions as well as the Firecracker 150 for the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman on Saturday night and the Enduro 200 on Sunday.

The Firecracker 150 is the second biggest event for the Sportsman division this season.  The last 100-lap race proved to be very exciting with Myles Harris winning and Matt Maillet and Derek Christie with podium finishes. This division of racing is always exciting and very competitive. There will definitely be some strong competition as points leader Michael Banks has been running well of late with Glyn Nott and John Rankin right on his heels in the points race. Like any other night in the Geary woods, you never know who is going to take home the checkers in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division and this weekend will be no different.

The points in the Coast Tire Street Stock division are heating up as there are only 40 points separating the top five. Points leader Brian Fox is having a good season.  Shawn Hyslop is 24 points behind Fox while Jason Shannon is closing in quickly and only trailing Hyslop by 1 point and claiming the third position.

The AOW division will make its third appearance at Speedway 660 this season with the racing getting better and better.  The division was a late addition to the schedule but has proved to be very entertaining for the fans.

The Second part of the double header weekend will take place Sunday at 2p.m. when the Enduro’s will be at the track for their first race of the season. The previous two races have been cancelled due to rain.  This weekend the Enduro drivers will be racing in a 200-lap race. The other Enduro events are scheduled for Sunday Aug. 16th (4cylinder only), and Monday Sept 7th as an end to the ever-popular SPEEDWEEKEND. Fans can expect to see a lot of the regular Enduro drivers’ back in action Sunday afternoon. They say rubbing is racing; in this case, it is for sure. If there were no rubbing and bumping into each other it would simply not be the Enduro division. The cars come out to each event during the season to compete for the points championship at the end of the season. You can expect to see drivers such as, Ed Vallis, Benji Ruff and Dale Hathaway, Rheal Kenny and as well as many more, participate in these Enduro events. Last year’s points’ champion, Ed Vallis, will be a tough competitor for sure. He knows how to get around the track and be there at the end, after all its an endurance race right !

This Sunday afternoon fans will get to see the long overdue Enduro 200.  It promises to be another exciting action packed event. It’s going to be another WicKID family fun weekend at Speedway 660; so make sure you don’t miss it!
