Collins Captures SpeedWeekend Sportsman Classic
(GEARY, NB – August 31st, 2019) – Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) raced to the biggest win of his career on Saturday evening at Speedway 660. Collins, the newly crowned 2019 Sportsman track champion, won the Martin’s Home Heating 100 to kick off SpeedWeekend 2019 at the Geary, New Brunswick oval. Brady Creamer (Miramichi, NB) finished second while Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB) brought home another SpeedWeekend podium finish by holding off Devin Snell (Saint John, NB) in the final laps. Luc Bourgeois (Memramcook, NB) finished in fifth place in the 20-car field.
Collins raced a throwback scheme on his No. 27 Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange Chevrolet on Saturday evening, honoring Bill Sommerville’s 1994 MASCAR racecar.
Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB), Snell and Ryan Raynes (Saint John, NB) took home heat race wins. Raynes was among those swept up in a Lap 57 wreck in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100 that sidelined seven contenders just past the halfway point. The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100 took one hour, 28 minutes to complete.
Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) raced to his sixth Maritime League of Legends Tour victory in nine races in 2019 by taking the INEX National Qualifier at Speedway 660. Langille held on the final restart with 11 to go after Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) blew a motor to trigger the yellow. Kody Quinn (Sydney, NS) was second with Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) third in the 19 car field. Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) was the top rookie in fourth with Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) fifth. MacDonald, Baker and Braden Langille captured heat wins.
Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) took home his third straight Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange 50 for the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour. Matthews held off challenges from Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) early and fended off Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS) and Mike Edwards (Penobsquis, NB) late to take home the victory. Giles Auto World Pole Challenge recipient Shay MacPhee (Yarmouth, NS) bested fellow rookie Darrell Hulme (Sydney, NS) for fourth in the 50-lap Mini Stock feature. Neil Miousse (Kentville, NS) and Matthews raced to heat race victories.
The Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Blast Part I was won by Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS). Noble took the lead from Dylan Dowe (Bedford, NS) and held off a hard charging Chisholm to take the win. Dowe finished third with Chase MacKay (Bear Cove, NS) and Austin Tanner (Shubenacadie, NS) completing the top five. Chisholm and Noble were heat race winners.
