Colby Smith wins the Irving Blending & Packaging 150
Colby Smith, from Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia won the $5000 first place prize money in the Irving Blending & Packaging 150 early Sunday morning at Speedway 660. After a two hour rain delay, Smith out-dueled Dave O’Blenis to win the biggest Sportsman race of the year.
“Our first SpeedWeekend victory is the biggest win of our racing career and to outrun Dave’OBlenis is an incredible accomplishment” said a jubilant Smith from the Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane. “Dave and I have raced each other many times over the last few years and it’s a thrill to win the Irving Blending & Packaging 150 in front of this big Speedway 660 crowd.”
O’Blenis, who picked up the $500 Modern Electric Halfway Challenge Award settled for second in the race, while Lonnie Sommerville drove home third. Wayne Smith, Brent Roy, Matt Rodgers and Devin Snell won the qualifying heat races, while Chris Reid and John Rankin won the last chance races.

Dave O’Blenis (right) finished second, while Lonnie Sommerville (left) drove to a third place finish.
“Colby and his crew did a great job tonight and I congratulate them on the win” said O’Blenis. “We tried our best on those last couple of restarts, but just didn’t have anything for those guys so now we’ve got to try to get a few hours sleep and come back later today for the Auto Value 250.”
Drew Greenlaw, won the West Wood Estate Apartments Bandolero Blast 25 lap race. The youngster from Eastport, Maine, took the win over Cole Tanner and Craig MacDonald. Greenlaw and MacDonald also won the heat races. Because the of the rain delay the second Bando Blast race has been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1PM. Qualifying for the Auto Value 250 begins at 2PM along with racing in the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter Division.
