Clarks Dominate Pro All Stars Series 200!

Fredericton, NB, June 12th, 2010 – Speedway 660 fans came out again in big numbers for the 2nd event of the year with the Pro All-Star Series 200 headlining Saturday night’s event in the Geary woods.   Three divisions on this night would see action including the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and the LeisureFamilyRV.com Street Stocks.

In the LeisureFamilyRV.com Street Stock division it was Mike Francis out of Saint John taking home the checkers in an impressive run up through the field.   Francis who started 10th took the lead off a caution involving the leader at the time Heidi Cooper.   Francis took advantage of his good fortune and passed Heidi’s father Rodney Ness on lap 12 to take the lead for good.   Francis takes home his first win of the year while Rodney Ness and Rick Cashol rounded out the top three respectively.

In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, in an uncharacteristic rough race, saw local favourite Richard Atkinson take home the checkers.   Atkinson was strong all day leading 2 of the 3 practice sessions with fastest time.  He started in 7th position and quickly powered his way to the top three in fewer than 10 laps, and then off a restart on lap 17, Atkinson had the preferred line on the outside and made his way to the front.  Atkinson would have a couple challengers in Dave Bigger and Randy Moore but this night belonged to the #40.  Dave Bigger got his first podium finish of the year finishing 2nd and Randy Moore finished a strong 3rd after a tough opening in week.

In the main event, the Pro All Star Series 200 competitors did not disappoint with some amazing side by side racing throughout the field.   The lead pack of Cassius Clark, Johnny Clark and Trevor Sanborn put on quite a show weaving their way through traffic.   Cassius led the race from the start with Johnny and Sanborn not far behind.  Sanborn earlier in the day in a practice session unofficially broke the track record with a time of 13.108 seconds around the 1/3 mile asphalt oval.   At lap 60 a caution came out giving Johnny Clark the chance to go head to head with Cassius Clark off the restart.  Johnny in his #54 made no mistake sticking it on the high line and taking over first spot on lap 61.   This also opened up the door for local Lonnie Sommerville to make his way into third place, biding his time for his opportunity to make a run for checkers.

At the midway mark of the event after a competition yellow Johnny Clark continued to lead the race with Cassius Clark and Sommerville hot on his tail.    The next 50 laps saw the# 54 dissect traffic like it was standing still even sliding between two cars to go three wide at the lap 150 mark.   In the end Clark was too strong leading over half of the laps in the event and taking home his 2nd consecutive PASS event.   Rounding out the top three were the #8 of Cassius Clark and Saint John native Lonnie Sommerville, respectively.

Speedway 660 resumes action next Saturday night June 19th with Military Appreciation day.
