BoB 150 Photo Album
(June 5, 2016) On Saturday fans were treated to the most exciting night of racing so far in 2016. The MacLaughlin Roof Trusses Best of the Best 150 was an outstanding race, but the sportsman and sharp shooter features also had fans on the edge of their seats. We invite you to check out our weekly photo album. Mike Francis, a retired street stock champ, was our guest photographer for the BoB 150.
The tech shed was a pretty busy spot on Saturday afternoon as cars rolled through inspection before hitting the track for practice and competition. It was great to see Kirk Thibeau and his team, from Fort Fairfield, Maine return to Speedway 660. Kirk won the very first Irving Blending & Packaging 250 here several years ago and always loves coming back to the Geary Woods for our big pro stock races. We were also excited with the arrival of one of the best short track drivers in the United States. Whoops – hello beach! Braxton Stafford takes a wild ride and hits the sand during the first pro stock practice. MacLaughlin Roof Trusses presents the Best of the Best 150 as well as sponsoring three cars at Speedway 660. Steve Halpin takes care of business by winning the first pro stock qualifying heat race. Nicholas Naugle, from Dartmouth, wins the second qualifying heat race. It was the first trip to Speedway 660 for Nicholas in a pro stock. Nicely done. The third pro stock qualifier goes to Cassius Clark. The two time winner of the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 served notice that he would be a force to be reckoned with on this night.Allison Hall does a great job besting the boys in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter heat race. Allison led several laps in the feature too.The first sportsman heat see a little slide-ways action. BTW that’s Courtney O’Blenis in the #48 making her sportsman debut.Andrew Rodgers goes to victory lane in his sportsman heat race, but upon further review (electronic scoring) it was determined that Colby Smith, from Cape Sable Island, was actually the winner of the race.George Jamieson won the second sportsman heat race. George, who is sponsored by MacLaughlin Roof Trusses, has the only Dodge in our sportsman stable.Things get a little sketchy in the sharp shooter feature. Three wide action like this is bound to happen when these little front wheel drive units hit the track. Matt Crocker wins the 15 lap Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter feature. His little buddy Pierson lays claim to the trophy. Hey how come that kid is wearing a Greg Fahey hat? “The Bearded Wonder” grabs another sharp shooter podium. Kyle MacKinnon, who won the feature last time out, finishes second this time. There’s probably no one around who has as much fun in a race car as this guy.The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! BJ Gillespie grabs third place in the sharp shooter feature for his first ever podium. He’s got some work to do to catch up to his Dad Brian, a five time sportsman and two time street stock champ. But that’s a pretty good start BJ – congrats.Fans were treated to the best sportsman feature of the young 2016 season on Saturday night. For forty laps Shawn Warren and Justin Cole raced side by side to determine who would prevail. In the end Warren crossed the stripe first to pick up his first feature win in the last three, maybe four years. Shawn is loyal to his home track and his crew, family, friends and Speedway 660 fans were pretty excited to see him win the Martins Home Heating Sportsman feature. Cole’s second place was his best finish of the year and he can’t wait to get this car back to Speedway 660 next weekend. Justin is one of three great sportsman drivers from the Harvey area.Ryan Messer, who is also from Harvey, drove home third. Those three fingers indicate that Ryan has had a podium finish in all three of his sportsman features this year. He got three the entire 2015 season! It’s time to watch the Big Boys play. Steve Halpin jumps out to an early lead in the MacLaughlin Roof Trusses Best of the Best Pro Stock 150.We saw lots of long green flag runs, with very few cautions in this race. The yellow did come out for this little incident which saw Paul Gahan beach the 66.We saw great racing through-out the field for all 150 laps, but the battle up front between Cassius Clark and Greg Fahey had fans on their feet as the laps wound down. In the end CA$$IUS CLARK celebrates the win in the Riverview Ford Victory Lane. Clark takes the 13 to the pay window after finishing runner up in this race one year ago.Greg Fahey ran a great race Saturday night. But one year after beating Clark in the Best of the Best 150, Greg and his team had to settle for second best this time out. Both drivers earn starting spots in the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 on SpeedWeekend. For the second straight year Lonnie Sommerville settled for third place in the Best of the Best 150. Lonnie was in and out of the pits a few times during the race to make adjustments on his car, but on this night he didn’t have anything for Clark & Fahey. The MacLaughlin Roof Trusses Best of the Best Pro Stock 150 was an awesome race. Clark, Fahey & Sommerville occupied the podium but all 23 drivers in this race gave the Speedway 660 fans an awesome show.
We thank Mike Francis for the great images we used in this week’s photo album.
