Anticipating SpeedWeekend!

(Sept, 3, 2015) One of Canada’s most prestigious short-track racing events runs from Friday night until Monday afternoon at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick. Irving Blending & Packaging SpeedWeekend will showcase the best Pro Stock and Sportsman drivers in eastern North America.

The SpeedWeekend racing schedule includes the Irving I24 Sportsman 150 on Saturday evening and the Irving Blending & Packaging Pro Stock 250 on Sunday. There will also be a free infield concert on Friday night and an ENDURO 200 on Monday afternoon.

The Harvey’s Family Farms corn-boil, bonfire and infield concert kicks off the weekend at 7PM on Friday. This popular free event for fans, campers, race teams and sponsors continues to attract large crowds every year. Recording artist Tristan Horncastle, who wowed race fans the last two years, is back by popular demand to play another show on Friday night.Tristan HorncastleTristan Horncastle will kick-off SpeedWeekend on Friday night. Racing gets underway Saturday at 7PM with qualifying heats for the Irving I24 Sportsman 150. Fans will also see the Westwood Estate Apartments Bandoleros and the Atlantic Modified Tour. There will be a lot of strong contenders in the Sportsman race including three-time winner Dave O’Blenis, the 2015 Martin’s Home Heating Champion Randy Moore, Lonnie Sommerville, Greg Fahey and a group of young drivers including Eastport, Maine’s Drew Greenlaw and the 2015 Sportsman Rookie of the Year Ryan Messer. Several visiting drivers will head to Speedway 660 for the Sportsman race as well.Drew Greenlaw 3rd place Sportsman ferature, July 25, 2015Drew Greenlaw, is fresh off an impressive season where he finished third in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman Division point standings.  Earlier this week he started his senior year in high school back home in Eastport, Maine. But on Saturday night Drew will put the books aside and focus on having a great run in the Irving I24 Sportsman 150. 

Qualifying for the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 gets underway at 2PM on Sunday. Fans will also see the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stocks. Then, once qualifying is complete, the 250 takes the green flag at 7PM Sunday night. And on Monday at 2PM the ENDURO Championship 200 wraps up an action packed SpeedWeekend.John Flemming wins the King Freight Dash for Cash July 2014John Flemming and Craig Slaunwhite are two of the best drivers on the Parts for Trucks Tour. Slaunwhite will be looking for his second Irving Blending & Packaging 250, while Flemming will try to win his first.

A virtual who’s who from Speedway 660’s weekly Pro Stock Division, the Pro All Star Series and the Maritime Pro Stock Tour will attempt to qualify for the big race. Lonnie Sommerville, Speedway 660’s weekly Pro Stock Champion, will lead the local contingent of drivers. Johnny Clark, a five-time PASS champ, headlines drivers from south of the border, while John Flemming a five time Maritime Pro Stock Champ will lead a strong group of drivers from the Parts for Trucks Tour.1024529-raphael-lessard-adolescent-saint-josephRaphael Lessard, a member of the David Gilliland Racing Driver Development Roster, is looking forward to his first visit to Speedway 660. This 14 year old Quebec boy is in the top ten in the PASS North points standings! 

“2015 was the best season in a long time for Pro Stock racing at Speedway 660 and a lot of us feel some of  our weekly race teams have a great chance to win this year’s 250” said Sommerville, the 2006 and 2009 Irving Blending & Packaging 250 winner. “It was an all-Maine podium last year and with all due respect to Travis Benjamin, Ben Rowe, Austin Theriault and the rest of the drivers from south of the border, we’re going to try to prevent that from happening this year.”pro stock action 2015The RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock weekly division drivers gave Speedway 660 fans a lot to cheer about this year. All of these guys, including champion Lonnie Sommerville (#23), will race hard to defend “home-turf” this weekend.

Benjamin, Rowe and Theriault dominated the 250 in 2014. They are all back for another run this year and are expected to be among the top contenders. With Cassius Clark, DJ Shaw and Johnny Clark also in the mix, the Americans will be hard to beat.

“You’ve got some great drivers at 660 and we know Lonnie, Dave O’Blenis, Greg Fahey, Kevin Moore and the guys coming in from the Maritime Tour are going to be tough” said Benjamin. “We finally won the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 in 2014 and our goal is to be the first team to win this prestigious race in back to back years.”Travis Benjamin 2015 250 winnerTravis Benjamin, a two-time Oxford 250 champion, wants to become the first driver to win the Irving Blending & Packaging 250 twice in a row. Travis leads a strong group of Americans headed our way for SpeedWeekend.

The Irving Blending & Packaging Pro Stock 250 is one of the richest short-track races in Canada. The winner pockets $15,000, there’s over $15,000 in Contingency Awards and the total purse tops $85,000. More than $110,000 in prize money is available to drivers during SpeedWeekend.

There are still a few campsites available for the weekend. Fans interested in booking one of those sites or purchasing advance SpeedWeekend event tickets are encouraged to call the Speedway 660 raceline at 506-454-7223. All 250 laps of the Pro  Stock race have been sponsored, however businesses still interested in sponsoring Contingency Awards can call the raceline.  PIC_0013Speedway 660 is preparing for it’s biggest SpeedWeekend of all-time!
