GILLESPIE’S SECOND GUNSLINGER CROWN AND TWO FIRST TIME WINNERS HEADLINE SUNDAY RESULTS!

Last Updated: August 13, 2024By

(August 12th, 2024) – BJ Gillespie (#69) drove into the history books as the first two-time winner of Speedway 660’s Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter division’s marquee event, the GunSlinger 75. Gillespie started up front and dominated the majority of the race – with track position benefitting the division points leader as wild chaos erupted in his mirror. Fittingly, the driver who sits second in points in Jason Duffield (#91) crossed the line second, with another former Sharp Shooter winner in Matt Martin (#33) rounding out the podium.

Twenty (20) Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter were on hand, but only seven finished on the lead lap after a rough and tumble affair that entertained fans all throughout as attrition played out. Gillespie had won his heat race earlier in the day, along with Todd Day (#4).

Ian Rasmussen (#81) earned a long awaited first feature win in the Re/Max East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock division – and it couldn’t come at a better time for the young second generation driver. Ian is on top of the division point standings and is chasing his first championship – which would put him on a mountain with his father Glenn, who has four career championships in the division. The feature win boosted Rasmussen’s points lead with only one points race remaining.

Rasmussen picked up the victory over last year’s runner-up in points Hudson Weston (#43) and Andrew Rodgers (#14). Ten cars were in attendance with Calvin Rankin (#45) earning the heat race victory to kick-off the day.

Ron Enkel (#52) scored his first career feature victory in the Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock division to much fanfare! Enkel – in his third year competing in the class – quickly grabbed the lead after winning his heat race, but then would have to hold off a number of hard chargers on a late restart to score the monumental victory! Points leader Justin Cole (#38) crossed the line in second to maintain a good points day, but he didn’t gain any ground with second in points Riley Goodwin (#77) crossing the line third after a wild battle with Luc McLaughlin (#11).

Enkel and Daniel Ayteo (#15) scored heat race wins to start the day for the eleven (11) Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock competitors. With just a few races remaining, Cole holds a four (4) point lead over Goodwin.

The Atlantic Modified Tour contested a competitive 35-lap feature – and for much of the day it appeared Tristin Harris (#7), a former Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter champion, was going to earn his first career AMT victory. “Mr. Excitement” Doug Matchett had something to say about that, passing Harris right before a caution, and hanging on over a late race restart to score the win. Harris scored a huge second place effort, while Chris Wilson (#2W) marched onto the podium late in the race to finish third.

Harris and Yves McCray (#58) earned heat race victories earlier in the day. Eleven (11) Atlantic Modified Tour competitors were on the property. For Matchett, it was his second career win at Speedway 660, and it narrowed the gap between himself and Wilson in the points lead. Wilson will carry a five (5) point lead into a Lyle Bongard’s RV Sales SpeedWeekend doubleheader.

Speedway 660 returns to action on Saturday August 17th with a highly anticipated event! The Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series returns to Speedway 660 for their championship race – the ReCar 150 presented by Wonder Auto & Tire. Only three points separate the top two competitors – Cory Hall and Ashton Tucker – setting the stage for an epic battle to the end. It will be a busy event, with Summit Dodge Sportsman, Shur-Fit Automotive, Bumper to Bumper Street Stocks, and Changing Hands Thrift Shop Sharp Shooter divisions all contesting points racing, while Bandolero’s will also return to the Geary Woods. Take note of a special 4pm start time for this one, you won’t want to miss it!
