Kid’s get in FREE on Speedway 660’s Season Opener!
(May 18, 2017) Speedway 660 opens its gates this Sunday with Kid’s Day and the Riverview Ford Season Opener. At 1PM fans of all ages are invited into the pits for a pre-race autograph session with drivers from the Re/Max Pro Stock, Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, DMR Auto Sales Street Stock and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter divisions. Racing gets underway at 2PM and the annual Kid’s Candy Scramble goes off during the intermission. On Saturday at 1PM there will be a pre-season race car inspection and practise session.
“2017 promises to be a phenomenal year for racing and I know everyone is excited to get back to the track to kick things off this weekend” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “The Riverview Ford Season Opener, combined with Kid’s Day, is going to be a great day of racing including the popular pre-race autograph session and the candy scramble during intermission.”At 1PM on Sunday Kids get to visit the pits, meet their favourite drivers, get autographs and photos along with some treats! It’s part of our annual Kid’s Day celebration.
Pro Stock fans will see several new faces in the Speedway 660 roster this season including Sarah McKay, from the Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour, Shawn Warren, up from Sportsman and Ryan Messer, the 2016 Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman champion.
“We’re really excited to be part of the McLaughlin Roof Trusses race team and becoming a team-mate with seven time Speedway 660 champion Greg Fahey” Messer said. “Winning the Sportsman title last season was a dream come true, but now we have this great opportunity to drive a Pro Stock and race alongside the best short-track drivers in the Maritimes.”Fans are anticipating Ryan Messer’s jump to the Re/Max Pro Stock division. Ryan’s two little buddies will be cheering for their favourite driver to have a great run on Kid’s Day!
Speedway 660 has a fantastic schedule lined up for race fans this season, including the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Spring Shootout on Sunday, May 28th. The Pro All Star Series 200 lap race highlights action on June 3rd, the first night race of the season. The schedule runs through SpeedWeekend on September 1st to 3rd. On Sunday, May 28th the TCM Bandolero Spring Shootout will visit Speedway 660. Its the first of two bando races in the Geary Woods.
“We’re excited to have the PASS Tour back on the schedule this year and we expect a strong field of cars from both the United States and Canada” said Roy. “The top three American and top three Canadian finishers in our PASS 200 will qualify for the Oxford 250 on August 27th, so we expect a strong car count up here in early June for that big race.” When the sun goes down on June 3rd, the Pro All Star Series drivers will usher in the first night race of 2017. The PASS 200 will be one of the best short-track events of the Maritime short-track season!
Riverview Ford Season Opener adult ticket prices are $14 and because it’s also Kid’s Day all fans 15 years of age and under will be admitted FREE. Tickets for Saturday’s pre-season tech inspection and practise are $10.
