It was a great night for racing in the Geary Woods. After a full afternoon of practice, the Sportsman drivers opened the show with 15 lap qualifying heats for the 125. Alexandra O’Blenis, last week’s sportsman feature winner, took a little spin on the backstretch in the first heat. That’s Hudson Weston in the 43. George Jamieson was fast in practice and carried that speed over to the qualifying heat. George took heat number one in his MacLaughlin Roof Trusses Dodge.Kenny MacKenzie Jr. was back in the Geary Woods on Saturday night. It was good to see the former bando driver and his family bring the 85 up from Salisbury to take a shot at the 125.When all was said and done, it was Drew Greenlaw, from Eastport, Maine, who collected the win in his Lisa MacIntosh Re/Max Group Four Realty Chevrolet. The street stocks were up next and Darcy O’Neil, from the Miramichi was the winner of the first heat race. Darcy was the fastest he’s been all season. Street stock heat number two saw Rick Cashol and Courtney O’Blenis battle it out. These two drivers have run a lot of laps side by side this year. This time Courtney grabbed the checkered flag and drove her machine into the Riverview Ford Victory Lane.Glyn Nott fans were glad to see their favouritie driver get back to victory lane. Glyn picked up his first win of the season in Saturday night’s first pro stock heat race.Big Kevin Moore (#88) has a nice little battle going with John Rankin in the second pro stock heat race. Both of these drivers were top five in points last year and hope to make a run for the pro stock championship in 2016.But it was Dustin Tucker who won that heat. Tucker has been getting better each time out in this race car. Could this be the night that he captures a podium finish in the Re/Max Group Four Realty 50 lap feature? Here come the street stocks for their 30 lap feature. Roger Slocum leads O’Blenis and Cashol across the stripe in the early going.Destiny Enkel (#52), last week’s feature winner, races in tight quarters with defending champion Rob Raynes and heat winner Darcy O’Neil. Courtney O’Blenis goes to victory lane with her second DMR Auto Sales Street Stock feature win of the year. Alexandra and Dave, the other two O’Blenis Motorsports drivers, celebrate with Courtney, before heading back to the pits to prepare for the big sportsman race.Rob Raynes, the defending street stock champ, continues his impressive streak of podium finishes. Rob came home second and continues to be a big threat to win back-to-back street stock crowns! Rookie Ryan Richard had his best street stock run ever, capturing third place in the 30 lap feature. Ryan drives for car owners David and Lee Goodine. His wife and new baby were also on hand for Ryan’s first ever podium. Glyn Nott takes the early lead in the 50 lap pro stock feature, but Dustin Tucker is in hot pursuit! There was lots of great side by side action for the entire race! The team from Fredericton Junction wins their first Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock feature of the season. Matt Harris is one of Speedway 660’s most loyal drivers. Matt started racing with us in year one, back in 94!It’s another great point night for John Rankin. The Brad Silliker Motorsports Team driver finished second on Saturday night. John, a former sportsman champion, has been one of our most consistent pro stock drivers in 2016.Hard work and perseverance finally pays off for Dustin Tucker. Dustin brings the Tucker Racing Products car to an impressive third place finish. Flagman Tim Elliot congratulates Brent Roy, winner of the CRF Rookie Challenge Award. Roy finished fourth in Saturday night’s pro stock feature. The Martins Home Heating Sportsman 125 goes green and in the early laps Drew Greenlaw is hooked up on the outside of Lonnie Sommerville (#27) and George Jamieson. Kenny MacKenzie Jr. races in tight quarters with Matt Rodgers and Jacob Logan. There were long stretches of green flag racing , with the third caution of the night only coming out on lap 100.Dave O’Blenis works his way around George Jamieson to gain another spot. O’Blenis, who won all three big sportsman races in 2015, is now closing in on the leaders.Greenlaw and Sommerville continue racing each other hard for the lead, while O’Blenis and Jamieson are right there too! O’Blenis is about to clear Sommerville and get after Greenlaw for the lead. It’s veteran vs. young gun and the laps are winding down. The pass gets made and the veteran takes the lead. With $2000 up for grabs in just a few more laps O’Blenis is anxious to take the 48 to the pay window! And that’s exactly what happens. Richard Martin congratulates O’Blenis on the big win after Dave captures the Martins Home Heating Sportsman 125.Matt Rodgers ends up second in the race for the second year in a row. Matt says his team will go back to the shop, continue working on the 42 and try to figure out how to beat O’Blenis when the Clark Chevrolet Firecracker 150 takes place on July 23rd. It was a great night for George Jamieson. The veteran driver’s Dodge Charger was solid for the entire race and George drove her home in third place.Dave O’Blenis never gets tired of standing in the middle of these big sportsman race podium photos. He’ll get another chance in a little over a month. Meanwhile Matt Rodgers, George Jamieson and the other sportsman drivers will have to hang tight before getting another shot at O’Blenis.
