(June 28, 2015) Saturday was another night of exciting racing at Speedway 660. We saw 50 lap features for Sharp Shooter, Street Stock and Pro Stock drivers plus some awesome action in Sportsman and Bandolero. We invite you to check out Michelle Roy’s photos from our most recent night of racing.

Saturday’s racing kicked off with the West Wood Estates Bandolero division. Our youngest drivers are always anxious to show fans their brand of racing.Shubenacadie’s Braden Langille takes the first checkered flag of the night, continuing his string of impressive victories. Next up the Sharp Shooters hit Speedway 660 to qualify for the Fredericton Gun Shop 50 lap feature.The first heat goes to Minto’s Courtney Barton. The former and sometimes current ENDURO driver is having a nice season in her Sharp Shooter. Unconfirmed sources say we could see Courtney behind the wheel of a street stock later in the season!  The second heat had some strong competition and the drivers raced hard and fast to the finish.Matt Crocker, “Mister Maritime Hustle” is thumbs-up after taking his Sharp Shooter to the Riverview Ford Victory Lane in that entertaining 2nd heat race.Moving right along, “Rocket” Rodney Ness  (#1) is under a little pressure from five-time champion Ricky Cashol in the first Street Stock heat.But that first Street Stock heat race goes to Tyler Seveck. He’s racing in memory of his Dad Steve, who ran his last race, last SpeedWeekend. Steve, who passed away in the off-season after a courageous battle with cancer, is missed by the Speedway 660 racing family. Nicely done Ty! Our fans love Street Stock racing. Things got pretty intense coming through turns three and four early on in the 2nd heat race.Rob Raynes roars to victory in that 2nd Street Stock heat. Rob doesn’t get the checkers quite as often as young Braden Langille does, but the driver of number 41 has taken a few in 2015. He’s hoping for one more later on this night. It was great to see Matt (#42) and Andrew (#14) back in the Geary Woods in their Sportsman cars on Saturday night. The Rodgers brothers are running a part-time sked in 2015. This time Matt out-runs his brother and the rest of the field to take the win. By the way, it was “Grampy” Bob Rodgers birthday. Bob has just a few more than 42 candles on his birthday cake this year! Randy Moore wins the 2nd Sportsman heat race. Randy was on the podium a week ago and after taking a year off his racing career appears to be rejuvenated!  It sure was nice to see Riverview’s Robbie Fraser back at Speedway 660 for the first time this year. Robbie rolled out for our first Pro Stock heat race.Matt Harris won that heat race. Harris won our first feature of the season and knows he has to continue to have good finishes to be in the championship hunt in 2015.Brady Creamer is one of the pleasant surprises in Pro Stock this season. Brady has been one of the most consistent drivers in this tough division and continued his impressive season with a win in the 2nd heat on Saturday night.The first feature of the night showcases our Bando drivers. Look who grabs the early lead. Once he gets out front this kid is almost impossible to catch!Another checkered flag and another piece of hardware for that trophy case. Braden Langille does it again. This kid wins where-ever he goes. He’s got 13 victories this season in the Maritimes and the States. Ashton Tucker and his Dad Cory celebrate another 2nd place finish in the West Wood Estates Bandolero feature. Ashton, who won the Bando feature at the Riverview Ford Season Opener, has been chasing Braden ever since then and has a trunk load of 2nd place trophies to prove it!MacKenzie Brewer and his Grandfather Brian Campbell, a big fan of the “MIGHTY BLACKHAWKS”, are happy with 3rd place in the Bando feature. Our best wishes go out to MacKenzie’s Grandmother Wanda, who is on the mend back home in the Quispam area. Hey Wanda, we miss you and everyone in your Speedway 660 family wants you to get well soon and bring your great smile, sense of humour and awesome organizational skills back to your summer home in the Geary Woods!OK here we go with the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter 50. Early on we get this little dust-up just to set the tone!Why is everyone in such a big hurry? Maybe someone forgot to tell them they’re running 35 more laps than they do on a regular night.We like our Sharp Shooters served up three-wide. Fun to watch but a little hard to take if you’re the tomato in the sandwich!When the dust cleared it was Kyle MacKinnon who posted the victory. By the way, Kyle is the guy with the facial hair! The guy without the whiskers is pretty pleased that his hero Uncle Kyle won the race.Matt Crocker, who finished 2nd in the Sharp Shooter 50, was actually leading with two to go. But the car started to sputter because it was running out of fuel and Matt somehow got to the finish line. Malcolm Suley kept his little car together for the entire race and was rewarded with a 3rd place finish. These guys never leave quietly. Hasn’t this poor car had enough abuse for one night?Matt  blew up a motor a week ago and now he’s seeing if the replacement mill is any good! It’s getting dark out here! The DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock 50 is underway and these drivers are gettin after it!Is there a car or cars in this cloud of dust? Despite one of the biggest dust-ups of the year there were no cautions in 50 lap Street Stock feature!Remember Rob Raynes? He won his heat race and then drove to victory in the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stock 50. Congrats Rob, that was a heck of a run!

Courtney O’Blenis was awesome on Saturday night. Just out of grade ten, this amazing teenager came home 2nd in the big Street Stock race!Roger Slocum drove a strong race in a loose race car and finished in 3rd place in the 50 lapper.The action gets intense in the Sportsman feature. Alexandra O’Blenis (#74) leads this group in the early stages of the game.Richard Atkinson and Randy Moore were wicked fast and spent much of the race in a blur at the front of the field!In the end Randy and Bob Colqhoun, from Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange, celebrate the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman win.Richard, his wife Heather and the rest of the race team were pretty pumped with a strong 2nd place Sportsman feature finish.Drew Greenlaw had another great run, finishing 3rd in the Sportsman feature, while celebrating his sister Madison’s 14th birthday. Drew, by the way, is 17.Lonnie Sommerville takes the Re/Max Pro Stock feature for the 2nd week in a row. Lonnie is the first Pro Stocker to win twice this year, but it wasn’t an easy victory.What a run for Paul Gahan! Late in the race he started passing cars on the outside groove and came home second. It was Paul’s best finish of the year and his team was pretty excited.Dave O’Blenis gets his first podium of 2015. The five time and defending Re/Max Pro Stock champion was 3rd on Saturday night.
