O’Blenis is “Best of the Best,” Takes Pro Stock 100 on Sunday at Speedway 660

(GEARY, NB – July 8th, 2019) – Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) was the quickest driver in the long run on Sunday afternoon at Speedway 660, ultimately saving his race car to race away with the Best of the Best 100. O’Blenis made the winning move on Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) to take home his third RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock victory of the year at the Geary, New Brunswick oval. The win is also the second straight Best of the Best 100 win for the No. 48 Irving Blending & Packaging team after winning the last 100-lap feature last July.

Behind O’Blenis, Roy was able to fend off Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) in the late laps to lock down the runner-up position. Reigning Pro Stock 250 champion Ryan Messer (Harvey, NB) returned to his home track to finish fourth on Sunday afternoon with Chris Duncan (Rothesay, NB) placing fifth in the 14-car field.

Pro Stock heat race wins went to Cassius Clark (Farmington, ME) and Kevin Moore (Fredericton, NB).

In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division, Dave’s youngest daughter Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) put bad luck behind her to win her first feature event of the 2019 season. O’Blenis raced to the 40-lap feature win over Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) and her sister Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB). Lonnie Sommerville Racing drivers Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) and Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) completed the top five. The O’Blenis sisters took home heat race wins.

In the final tune up leading into the Ricky Bobby 150 presented by DMR Auto, it was reigning track champion Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB) racing to his first feature win of 2019. Hyslop was joined on the podium in the 30-lap race by Bill Storey (Fredericton, NB) and James “Hollywood” Matchett (Miramichi, NB), but with Storey not passing post race technical inspection, it promoted Matchett to the runner-up spot and Justin Cole (Harvey, NB) to the podium. Finishing out the top five in the 14-car field included Chris Hanley (St. Stephen, NB) and Kyle MacKinnon (Lincoln, NB). Storey and Courtney O’Blenis were credited with heat race victories.

Another impressive car count showed up to compete in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters division with 23 cars answering the call to the green flag on Sunday. BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) emerged as the winner for the third time this season. Tristan Harris (Harvey, NB) continued his impressive rookie season with a second place finish with Brody Levesque (Lincoln, NB) in third during the 20-lap feature. Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton, NB) was fourth with Ricky Arbeau (Fredericton, NB) coming home in fifth. Sophomore Randy Titus (French Lake, NB), Matt Martin (Haneytown, NB) and Gillespie won qualifying heat races on Sunday.

The Best of the Best 100 racing card was run on Sunday after extreme heat, rain and a tornado watch forced race officials to postpone the event from the original Saturday evening date.

Next week will see the fastest Street Stock drivers in the Maritimes haul to Speedway 660 for their share of the $10,000 purse in the Ricky Bobby 150 presented by DMR Auto. The green flag will fly for qualifying at 6:30pm on Saturday, July 13th.
