Urquhart Construction 100 marks Round Three of Maritime Street Stock Series
(FREDERICTON, NB – August 12th, 2021) – Speedway 660 is back in action this weekend with the first of three major DMR Auto Street Stock races between now and the end of the 2021 season. The Urquhart Construction 100 on Saturday, August 14th is the first extended distance race for the popular grassroots racing division at the track on the calendar. The race marks the third of five Maritime Street Stock Series races, which will see several top talents from across the Province make the trek to Geary, New Brunswick for the event. The Late Model Sportsman and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will play support to the Urquhart Construction 100. Racing begins on Saturday, August 14th at 6:30pm.
Over 15 cars are expected to race for the checkered flag in the Street Stock show on Saturday evening. Four DMR Auto Street Stock events have been contested in 2021 and have produced four different winners. Three of those drivers are expected to not only compete on Saturday but contend for the win when the laps wind down in the 100-lap feature. Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB) is the most recent winner in DMR Auto Street Stock competition at the track. Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) enters as the Maritime Street Stock Series point leader and was the winner during Christmas in July at Speedway 660. Former DMR Auto Street Stock Champion Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB) also has a win in his back pocket from June.
Brad MacLean (Black River, NB) is the most recent winner in the Maritime Street Stock Series, winning the $5K Stuff Your Stuff Storage 100 at Petty International Raceway on August 7th. MacLean trails Cormier by a single point in the standings, which equates to a single spot on the track in the feature. James Matchett (Miramichi, NB) is third in the standings, four points behind Cormier after two races. The top five in the standings will receive bonus money with the champion receiving an extra $1,000.
While not a full point race for Speedway 660’s DMR Auto Street Stocks, the Urquhart Construction 100 will set the table for the final point race in the 2021 championship on Saturday, August 21st. With both SpeedWeekend 2021 and the Ricky Bobby 150 in September being show points races, next week will crown the first track champion for 2021 in Atlantic Canada! Goodwin leads the house points with Caleb Urquhart (Charters Settlement, NB) trailing by seven points and Tristin Harris (Harvey, NB) seven behind Urquhart. The trio will look to successfully defend their home turf with a statement victory on Saturday night.

The Late Model Sportsman and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter championship hit mission critical this weekend with their penultimate point races this weekend. Six drivers are within 24 points of the point championship in the Late Model Sportsman class, led by the O’Blenis sisters. Alexandra, who won the Firecracker 150 the last time out at Speedway 660, has a seven point lead on her younger sister Courtney. Lonnie Sommerville Racing stablemates Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) and Clark Moore (Saint John, NB) are 11 and 15 points out of a championship, respectively. Richard Atkinson (Geary, NB) and Destiny Enkel (Darlings Island, NB) will need a solid run this week to solidify a shot in September at a Speedway 660 title.
BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) has a breathable 22 point lead on both Matt Martin (Geary, NB) and Darren Wilcox (Fredericton, NB) with two scheduled point shows remaining in the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter division. With the car count the in the class topping two dozen cars each week, one small slip from the No. 69 car would quickly drop the team out of the top spot. Teams will look to gain momentum ahead of next weekend’s Gunslinger 50 presented by Fredericton Gun Shop and Fairview Jeep Ram – so the top spot will be pretty coveted this week!
Should inclement weather interfere with Saturday’s racing program, a rain date has been set aside for Sunday, August 15th at 2pm. Fans are encouraged to keep up to the track’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Speedway660 for the latest information on Saturday’s card.
For the fifth straight season, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.
Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday night’s racing card is $20 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1pm on Saturday, grandstand gates open for spectators at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm.
