(FREDERICTON, NB – June 8th, 2022) – The teams of the Maritime Street Stock Series roll into Speedway 660 this Saturday night for the Targett’s Windows and Doors Street Stock 100. The race is the second of five on the five race, five track Series that brings together a handful of 100-lap Street Stock division events. The card at the Geary, New Brunswick oval on Saturday, June 11th will also feature championship point racing in the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock, Late Model Sportsman and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter divisions. It is the first night race of the 2022 season with action getting underway on Saturday at 6:30pm.
The Shur-Fit Auto Parts, Bumper to Bumper Street Stocks at Speedway 660 have seen the No. 68 car race to the first two feature wins of the season. On paper it looks clean cut but the action on track has been an old school brawl for racing real estate. Curtis Collins (Barnesville, NB) was at the helm of the Moncton Chrysler Dodge entry for Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) on Opening Weekend and swept both features. Behind him, the field raced hard for every position, swapping paint and vinyl samples, and the occasional fender, like they were going out of style. With two heat wins and two top four feature finishes, Rick Cashol (Saint John, NB) was able to come out with second in points after two races with Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen, NB) not far behind in third. A dozen Street Stock teams took part in the Opening Weekend on May 28th and 29th.
The Maritime Street Stock Series kicked off last Saturday at Petty International Raceway with Cormier taking the advantage on the final restart from Logan Power (Riverview, NB) to capture the checkered flag. Not only is Cormier pacing the Shur-Fit Auto Parts, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock championship standings, he is also the reigning champion of the Maritime Street Stock Series and their event at Speedway 660. Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) was third in the Old Fashion Meat Market 100, with Brad MacLean (Black River, NB) and reigning Speedway 660 track titlist Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB) in fifth.
With the Targett’s Windows and Doors 100 being a part of the Maritime Street Stock Series, several teams will make the trip to Speedway 660 from outside county lines and provincial borders to challenge the Shur-Fit Auto Parts, Bumper to Bumper Street Stock teams. Reigning Passione Flooring East Coast Mini Stock Tour Rookie of the Year Marshall Bezanson has committed to the Series and will make the haul from Oldham, Nova Scotia to compete Saturday. With Oyster Bed Speedway taking their Central Engine Services Street Stock division off for the weekend, fans can expect for Island content in the field Saturday. The first race of the Series saw Mitchell Arsenault (Summerside, PE) and Randy Millar (Freeland, PE) compete at Petty Raceway. The winner of Saturday’s feature will pocket a cool $1,000 for their efforts at Speedway 660.
After sweeping the Opening Weekend, including the Riverview Ford Lincoln 100, Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) leads the RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty Pro Stock standings over Wyatt Alexander (Ellsworth, ME). O’Blenis is looking for his seventh track championship in the division. Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) is the Late Model Sportsman point leader over a close pack of four including Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), Brady Creamer (Miramichi, NB) and Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB). Defending Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter Champion BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) leads Daniel Atyeo (Chipman, NB) by a single point in the Sharp Shooter title chase. Twenty-three Four Cylinder division drivers started off the season at Speedway 660 two weekends ago.
For the sixth straight season, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.
Adult grandstand admission prices are $20 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. New in 2022, all those entering the pit gates must complete their insurance waiver online prior to heading to the track. This can be done on any smart phone and takes seconds to complete.
