(FREDERICTON, NB – August 19th, 2021) – The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters will shine in the spotlight this weekend with the Third Annual Gunslinger 50 presented by Fredericton Gun Shop and Fairview Jeep Ram. While the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and DMR Auto Street Stocks will anchor the on track action, the Kids Day festivities postponed from earlier in the season will return this weekend. A Cold Pit Autograph Session, Candy Scramble and the second Power Wheels Race of the year will highlight the “off-track” portion of the event. The Autograph Session begins at 5pm with racing set to take place at 6:30pm.
The Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters have hit their stride just ahead of their biggest show of the year. With an increased purse and extra laps compared to regular races, the Gunslinger 50 presented by Fredericton Gun Shop and Fairview Jeep Ram is a race that everyone has circled on their calendar. Over 30 teams have competed in at least one race in the class in 2021, the most of any four cylinder class at any single track across Atlantic Canada. In five races, four different winners have emerged in victory lane with several more chomping at the bit to make an appearance this weekend.
Daniel Atyeo (Chipman, NB) is the most recent winner, scoring his first Sharp Shooter feature triumph last Sunday afternoon. He joined Max Suley (Clarendon, NB), Matt Martin (Geary, NB) and BJ Gillespie (Harvey, NB) as feature winners on the 2021 season. Gillespie has two victories this season and leads the points over a quartet of drivers who have yet to pull into Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane. While the Gunslinger 50 is not a full point race, Darren Wilcox (Fredericton, NB), Randy Titus (French Lake, NB), Randy Storey (Royal Road, NB) and Austin Harnish (Fredericton, NB) can send a mission statement to the field on Saturday with their first win of 2021.
The DMR Auto Street Stock have two “show point” races following Saturday, meaning that everyone that shows up for those two races receives the same amount of points regardless of finish. What does that mean? In short – given the contenders show up for SpeedWeekend and the DMR Auto presents the Ricky Bobby 150 in September, while the trophy will not be handed out, the championship in the division will be ultimately decided this Saturday night.
Riley Goodwin (McAdam, NB) leads the standings by just seven and 14 points over Street Stock sophomores Caleb Urquhart (Charters Settlement, NB) and Tristin Harris (Harvey, NB), respectively. In five races, including the Maritime Street Stock Series Urquhart Construction 100 last Sunday, Goodwin has only finished off the podium once. The youngster will look to pull from those past experiences to put himself in a position to win his career first Speedway 660 track championship.
The Power Wheels race at intermission will be the second installment for the youngest motorsports enthusiasts in the region. Entries must be racing an enclosed vehicle and a 12 volt battery must be stock with no modifications. More information can be obtained by contacting the Speedway 660 office. While registration is not required before race day, it is recommended.
Should inclement weather interfere with Saturday’s racing program, a rain date has been set aside for Sunday, August 22nd at 2pm. Fans are encouraged to keep up to the track’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Speedway660 for the latest information on Saturday’s card.
For the fifth straight season, children aged 15 and under will be admitted to the grandstands for free to every stock car event at Speedway 660. The admission structure makes it easier for families to attend race events at the track and received positive feedback from fans when implemented mid-season in 2017.
Adult grandstand admission price for Saturday night’s racing card is $15 (aged 16 and up). Pit admission is $20 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Pit gates for competitors will open at 1pm on Saturday, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4:30pm, Autograph Session beginning at 5pm with racing getting underway at 6:30pm.
