Sommerville Wins Peterbilt 250!

History Made at the 9th Annual Peterbilt 250
Sommerville becomes the first ever 2 time winner of the Peterbilt 250

Fredericton, NB-The biggest sporting event in Atlantic Canada turned out a record crowd on Sunday for the 9th running of the Peterbilt 250.  A record forty-four cars made their way to the Geary woods to attempt to qualify for only 28 starting positions in front of over 8,000 fans setting a new attendance record at Speedway 660.

With lots of cars and very few spots to get, qualifying was entertaining to say the least.
Heat winners for the qualifying heats were Greg Fahey, John Flemming, Craig Slaunwhite and Johnny Clark.   In the last chance, 20 cars started with only two spots remaining.   Notables in the final crack at the Peterbilt 250 were Rollie MacDonald, Glenn Rasmussen and Daryl Mahar.    Proude after a restart on lap 7 was able to make it to the front to secure his spot in the big race.  That left MacDonald, Mahar, Rasmussen and the PEI native Darren Mackinnon to fight it out for the final entry into the event.  The veteran Rollie MacDonald got a little racy with the 66M of Daryl which brought out a caution and allowed the 18M of Mackinnon to get the final spot into the Peterbilt.  At this point the only thing left was the provisional starters for the event which saw Glenn Rasmussen, Matt Harris, Jonathan Hicken and Robert Tomlinson granted entry into the prestigious 250.

The Crowning of Champions!

Fredericton, NB – It was a beautiful day for racing in the Geary Woods. A great day for crowning champions.  After being washed out on Saturday evening today’s Fan Appreciation day was a success.

In the Coast Tire Street Stock we saw a new champion being crowned. Brian Fox won his first Coast Tire Street Stock Championship.  Going into the feature there were just a couple points between Fox and Rick Cashol. Unfortunately Cashol had a mechanical problem which forced him to the pits. He came back and was still on the lead lap but he ran out of time and laps.  The rookie of the year was the # 4 of Richard Hartley.  Kevin McKeen was the other big story in the Street Stock division taking home the Robin’s Inn Hat Trick Award.  McKeen has been getting stronger each week.  Matt Matheson finished a close second as Charles Gaddess rounded out the top three.

FANFEST 2009 -Wow!!!

Fredericton N.B.- Mother nature has not been to kind to us lately as it has rained on our parade or so to speak the past couple weekends.  She did not win this weekend.  All week the forecast has been showing rain for this weekend.  Track officials made the decision to wait until later in the day to make the decision whether to race or not to race. The right decision was definitely made as the races went on and what exciting racing it was.

It was the first FANFEST 2009 presented by Sojourn Signs event at Speedway 660 and it was a huge success.  Drivers, crews and race fans of all ages were admitted into the track for FREE. This was a great opportunity to show appreciation for all the support that the drivers, crews and fans show each and every week.  It was good to see a lot of regular race fans and a lot of new faces in the crowd tonight. Guaranteed they will become regulars now that they have seen what they have been missing. Racing is a wonderful sport and one that can be very addictive once you have heard the cars, and have seen racing from some of the finest drivers in Canada each and every week.

DQ Kids’ Day…A Little Something for Everyone

Fredericton N.B. – Speedway 660 hosted a full day of excitement for race fans of all ages. The excitement started well before the races, as drivers were ready for the opportunity to meet race fans at the pre-race autograph session in the pits.  Drivers took some time out from working on their cars to meet their race fans, hand out treats and pictures for the youngsters.   Drivers autographed everything from pictures, books, flags, and arms (yes arms!).  The youngsters also had the opportunity to fill their sweet tooth during intermission when they went trackside and filled up on candy with the legendary candy scramble. This is always a huge success with our young race fans. Other activities for our young race fans included bouncy castles from GO GO Gymnastics, face painting and fan giveaways.  Speedway the Moose and Curly Cue, the DQ mascot, were also on hand to meet and greet race fans.
